I agree that is completely insensitive to build a mosque near the site where muslims killed thousands of innocent american citizens. I do not believe the motives behind this mosque are pure. I think they want to put a mosque there as a symbol of conquest, the way they have done for 1,400 years when they come into a new country and attack and kill non-believers in the name of allah.
I will be praying this rosary on August 15.

In all fairness, we are a people who believes in freedom of religion; and in the rule of law. So if the laws in question on zoning, etc, allow the Cordoba Center to be built, then in accordance with our principles we should let it be built.

The gentleman in the very pink tie is a very knowledgeable biblical scholar. He happens to be Jewish. An Arab newspaper says he did a wonderful job defending them.

I don’t think excluding someone or a religion because someone’s feelings might get hurt is a good policy to follow. What would Jesus do?

I have to say I am very sad and disgusted by this. To use the Rosary for clearly hateful reasons is sickening.

While I do not like the mosque being built there, I will not pray to deny someone the right to build a religious building where they legally can. Remember Catholics were told they had no rights in this country at one point.

I have prayed that these Muslims who are building the mosque can see the pain this would cause and agree to move it, and that is the only thing we should be praying for.

I wonder what is next, praying that politicians we disagreed with die, saying a rosary asking for an abortion mill to explode with all the workers inside.

We are supposed to be better then this, we are supposed to use our prayers to help save others, not to tear others down.

Agreed. At the same time, though, the media exists to destroy religion. As a member of the SSPX Third Order, I do not watch TV (or even own one). the media will never show religion in a good light.

You may think I am being dramatic, but I need to emphasise the fact that Islam is a serious threat to Western Civilisation!

I live in a country (UK) with a large and vocal Islamic community. The majority of these individuals are generally peaceful, but a lot of them openly declare that they want to destroy Christianity, and by extension, Western democracy.

Christianity in Europe is dying and Islam is growing. Make no mistake about it, Europe will one day be an Islamic continent. Birth rates alone will ensure this, not to mention increased immigration from Islamic nations.

Don’t be like us British. We did nothing to stop the growth of Islam in our country, and now the Muslims are calling for Sharia law. They want to change the UK into an Islamic society and they will do this! Christianity is constantly mocked but everyone is afraid of offending Muslims. It is too late for Great Britain. We are doomed because of political correctness.

Please America, do not allow your country to abandon its Christian heritage. Do not allow Muslims to blatantly disrespect the memory of the innocents who were slain at the hands of radical Islamists.

I am very bothered by it, although I live 2000 miles away. But let’s face it, they have the law on their side, and our own belief in religious freedom. Do we betray what we believe in to stop a building we dissapprove of?

Americans respect that right to Freedom of Religion not Freedom from Religion, unlike many Atheist in this country. To deny anyone a place would be to violate the principals this country was founded on.

Blaming the weakness of Catholics and their faith in Europe on Islam is a poor excuse. The fact is had Catholics in Europe not fallen prey to relativism and socialism they would not be where they are today. The same is coming true somewhat here in the United States, but we cannot blame that on Islam, we need only look in the mirror. American Catholics need to stand up and wake up, but not by becoming what our “enemy” is. We should pray for the conversion of their souls, show them what a Catholic what a Christian is, do not show them that we can be just like them.

Because denying someone’s freedom of religion is not going to convert them. You think they will just go “ well, gosh all these wonderful Christians really hate us and don’t want us around, I guess if I can’t them beat I should join them” or do you think they will say “ Well that’s just Christians being Christians, lets hate them too”

The Rosary was given to us as a powerful weapon of peace, it is one of the strongest we have, use it to pray for the conversion of these souls, not for their exclusion.

I thought it was quite bold to name this mosque/Islamic center Cordoba in regard to a Spanish city in the province of Andalusia, which was once a center of Islamic life in the Iberian Peninsula until the Reconquista. In the end, it is wonderful this mosque is receiving much political support while the Greek Orthodox church destroyed during September 11th has not been able to be rebuilt. Quite a situation.

I don’t think I’ve ever read such a bizarre distortion of the reality on the ground in Britain today - what’ve you’ve written is worthy of the BNP or the NF.

I’ll refer you to a survey undertaken by the Policy Exchange, a centre-right think thank, back in 2008. 93% of British Muslims have ‘no admiration for organisations such as Al-Qaeda that are prepared to fight the west’. 64% of Muslims thought a decision by one British council to ban images of pigs in its offices to avoid offence to Muslims was ‘unnecessary’. 75% disagreed with another council’s ban on advertisements for a carol service for the same reason. Another survey found that 77% of Muslims identified with Britain, compared to only 50% of the general public.

To paint the Islamic population of Britain, or of the US, as some kind of ‘fifth column’ is nonsense of the highest calibre. True, there are violent extremists in the Islamic population, but there are plenty of extremist outside of it. Robert Cottage, the BNP parliamentary candidate who was found in possession of Britain’s largest ever explosive chemical haul wasn’t a Muslim, neither were the Hutaree militia in the US, who are currently awaiting trial for terror offences.

To move on to the Ground Zero mosque debate itself, I can see no reason why a mosque should not be permitted on that site. Should we prohibit Sikh temples on the west coast of Ireland, because extremist Sikhs blew up an Indian airliner there? The World Trade Centre terrorists bear no more relation to the reasonable people behind the Cordoba Mosque than the Branch Davidians do to ordinary Christians. To allow the construction of the mosque would show the world (especially Muslims worldwide) that the spirit of religious tolerance the United States was founded upon is not dead.

The misuse of the Blessed Rosary to pray against this mosque is even more appalling. As has been said by others here, the Rosary is not a weapon designed to futher intolerance. Many of the comments made here go directly against the teachings of the Church with regards to Catholic-Muslim relations. Nostra Aetate states that “The Church regards with esteem also the Moslems”, documenting the many beliefs we share with Islam, and going on to note that “this sacred synod urges all to forget the past and to work sincerely for mutual understanding and to preserve as well as to promote together for the benefit of all mankind social justice and moral welfare, as well as peace and freedom.” Popes Pius XI, Pius XII, John XXIII and Paul VI were all admirers of Louis Massignon, the late French Melkite priest, scholar of Islam, and personal friend of Blessed Charles de Foucald. Massignon paved the way for the Islamic section of Nostra Aetate.

Here’s my :twocents:

There was one church destroyed that day: St Nicholas Greek Orthodox. It was a lovely little church, and for several years before it was destroyed, I visited there at least monthly for some quiet prayer. When it fell, the congregation almost immediately vowed to rebuild it, and they have been ready to do so for some years now, but there’s a problem: the “authorities” haven’t approved their permit. They’re just sitting on it.

Perhaps the “authorities” might better first act on that permit, to restore a Christian church that was is existence for the better part of a century, before giving vocal support to, or (worse) acting on, anything else.
