The reason I posted this question is because for a while I lived as a pantheistic person, though I received confirmation. I went to all places of prayer and prayed to anything and everything. I even worshiped Mary. I took the title “Mother of GOD” to mean that she was a Goddess. Then I walked away from all faith. I had a personal experience of Jesus back in 1993. I came back to the church recognizing that Jesus is the only way to the Father. I developed a personal relationship with Jesus.
I understood that the title “Mother of GOD” had nothing to do with Mary but rather Christology and that Christ is both 100% GOD and 100% man. I started understanding the dogmas of the church. I had great problems with some of them, but grew through wrestling with them and understanding them. At this point I have no problem accepting the dogma’s related to Mother Mary.
However, because of my experience of Jesus, each time I prayed the rosary, I had this great sense of uneasiness. I feel that I am giving Mother Mary the place that I should reserve only for Jesus. I feel that I need to emulate her by being the handmaid of the LORD, by hearing the word and saying, “Let it be done to me according to your Word.” To co-operate fully with the Holy Spirit in his plan for salvation.
Today in our Church the Rosary is synonymous with Prayer. Whenever we are encouraged to have family prayer, we are told to have family Rosary. My child would not have been able to receive first Holy Communion without knowing the Hail Mary. I guess, there would be others like me who have the same questions.
When I was going through the Catholic Bible Institute, when people questioned about the Role of Mary, the attitude was “How dare you question the church’s authority?” Hence many people did not ask any questions. With the advent of forums like this, it gives people an opportunity to ask questions without being ostracized as heretics.
So, I personally am grateful. I have learned a lot and have also a lot to ponder on.
