Hi, all!

I was recently given a hand-me-down Rosary, and I’m not sure what the scene depicted on the middle medal could possibly be. There is an archway with what looks like Mary in the middle, with a figure on either side of her (or statues?). Behind and to the right, there is a building that looks almost oriental, the way the roof is drawn–or could it be a basilica? Convent? I’m not sure. Then, in the upper left corner, there is a pine tree.

On the flip side of this medal is a depiction of both sides of the Miraculous Medal, which leads me to think the scene may be that of a saint. The only one that I’ve considered is St. Martin de Tours because of the pine tree, but I really don’t know. It looks like Mary under the arch, not a male saint.

Also, it appears to be a relatively old Rosary–it’s sturdy, but tarnished and it’s quite lovely. But I have no idea what this medal is depicting!

Thanks for any insight anyone can provide! And, God bless!

Hi, PassioAmator! I did take a picture of the medal and would love to include the image here, but I can’t see how to do so! I don’t have the picture in a url link–I simply have it saved on my computer as a regular photo file.

I wish I could include the image! But I only see a way to include a link to a url…

Go to this website:
imgur.com
On the top left and click the upload image button, it is entirely free, and will generate a link to the photo.
I would love to help and this is also peeking my interest:D

I know! I tried every variation of “Mary, archway, pine tree” I could possibly come up with, and found nothing! I would love to know what this image is.

Thanks for taking a stab at it! 🙂

Hi CircleUnbroken,

Good job of uploading your image here, so that we can see it. 🙂

It does look quite old, and very beautiful. I have never seen anything like it, either.

The only thing that I can think of, would be to try and get some more information from the person who gave it to you–see if they know anything about it–where they got it from, where it came from, if they know, etc.

It’s likely from some Shrine, sold as a souvenir for the faithful.
Pretty!

Thank you for your responses!

oldgraymare2–My mom actually gave me this Rosary, but she bought it from a thrift store! So, she doesn’t know where it came from either! She said that there were two of the exact same kind and she bought them both. She has the other one, but neither of us can figure out this image on the medal!

pianistclare–You’re probably right! It’s most likely from a Shrine. I just wish I could figure out which one! I guess it doesn’t really matter–I’m just curious. I like to know what I have in my hands when I pray. I’ve never seen this image before, and I’m determined to figure it out 😃

Anyone else have any ideas?

When I saw the other two people I thought of Our Lady of Knock.
Mary appeared in the West of Ireland with St. Joseph and St. John the Evangelist.

Thanks for your response. 🙂

That’s nice that she got it from a thrift store, and now has one and gave you the other.

I have a friend that does the same, where she has picked up many lovely Catholic items from one of our local stores.

By the way, welcome to the forum! 🙂

It’s nice having you here with us, and I hope that you have a good time, posting here with us!

pianistclare–That’s an interesting idea! I’m not even sure I ever heard of Our Lady of Knock. That would explain the two other figures. I’m just confused by that building in the back and the pine tree! 🙂

oldgraymare2–Thanks very much for the welcome! I’ve listened to Catholic Answers Live for so long on the radio, and when I couldn’t figure out anything about this medal, I thought the best place to ask would be here on these forums! Someone’s bound to know 😃

that is so beautiful and definitely looks old. I wish I could help you. hope you solve the mystery!

I don’t think it’s Knock, because it looks too Italian to me. Interesting.

I think I found it…
St Mary of the Barrens. National Shrine of Our Lady of the Miraculous Medal

amm.org/marysshrine/virtual%20tour%20of%20the%20shrine.aspx

amm.org/MarysShrine/MM%20Chapel.aspx#olaltar

On your medal, the image to the left seems to be the main altar, and the image to the right ,the shrine itself. And there is the pine tree.
What look like dots on the shrine of your medal is some kind of bricklike decoration.

There is a virtual tour to the shrine in one if the links.
I do not know but it could be…

graciew–YES!!! I think you’re right!!! Oh, I’m so excited!!! Thank you so much 😃

7 Sorrows and Isca–thank you for your responses as well!

Oh, I feel so relieved. This is wonderful. I’ll have to call my mom and tell her! Thanks so much! 😃
