I have a question about the Rosary.
According to the USCCB website:
The Five Joyful Mysteries are traditionally prayed on the Mondays, Saturdays, and Sundays of Advent
The Five Sorrowful Mysteries are traditionally prayed on the Tuesdays, Fridays, and Sundays of Lent
The Five Glorious Mysteries are traditionally prayed on the Wednesday and Sundays outside of Lent and Advent
The Five Luminous Mysteries are traditionally prayed on Thursdays.

What about days that aren’t included in the above categories? Tuesday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday of Advent? Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Saturday of Lent? Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday, and Saturday outside of Lent and Advent?

If it’s Tuesday in Advent, which Mystery does one pray? If it’s Wednesday in Lent, which Mystery?

I think this is why I’ve never prayed the Rosary. It’s too complicated. 🤷
 
The mysteries to be prayed on certain days is a suggestion. Its fine to pray whichever mysteries you feel like praying.
 
The way it is written is misleading. All days are accounted for:

The Five Joyful Mysteries are traditionally prayed on all Mondays, all Saturdays, and only on Sundays of Advent

The Five Sorrowful Mysteries are traditionally prayed on all Tuesdays, all Fridays, and only on Sundays of Lent

The Five Glorious Mysteries are traditionally prayed on all Wednesday and only on Sundays outside of Lent and Advent

The Five Luminous Mysteries are traditionally prayed on Thursdays.

Monday through Saturday are always the same. Sundays vary depending on Lent, Advent, or neither. Hope that helps.
 
As another poster already said, the Rosary is a private devotion. You can pray it any way you choose.

I am one of the volunteers leading the Rosary on Sunday before Mass. This is the schedule we follow, from the booklet, Pray the Rosary; St. Joseph Edition.

The Joyful Mysteries: Mondays, Saturdays, the Sundays of Advent, and the Sundays from Epiphany until Lent.

The Sorrowful Mysteries: Tuesdays, Fridays throughout the year, and daily from Ash Wednesday until Easter Sunday.

The Luminous Mysteries: Thursdays

The Glorious Mysteries: Wednesday, and the Sundays from Easter to Advent.

It is not a requirement to meditate on specific mysteries on certain days. It is a suggestion so people remember to vary them. You may pray any mysteries you feel led to. Be at peace! The Rosary is a powerful prayer.

Don’t forget, the Luminous Mysteries weren’t even published until October, 2002. So that’s only thirteen years for them to have been “traditionally” prayed on Thursdays. 😉 I grew up with a Sunday-Saturday pattern of G, J, S, G, J, S, G, regardless of liturgical season, and it’s hard to change old habits. But that’s okay. The important part is to pray mindfully and meditate on whatever mystery it happens to be, whether it’s the same set of mysteries that anyone else in particular is praying that day or not.

Right. Like you, I prayed the old pattern and I still do. What I do is, I do the Luminous Mysteries as a ‘second set’ on Sundays. That way I have the continuity of the ages, so to speak, as well as the opportunity for more prayer on Sunday and I like the idea of honoring Pope St. John Paul II with his mysteries on Sundays.

Thats not a strong enough reason to quit praying the rosary. you can start by saying hail mary then we will be in a good position to pray the rosary.
 
I have a Latin rite friend who prays the Joyous Mysteries every day through Advent, and the Sorrowful every day in Lent.
