Ok, strange question here: So I am new Catholic and have a non Catholic friend who went to Italy/Vatican and bought some rosaries that were blessed. When I told her I converted she gave me one and I haven’t used it until a few days ago. When I opened it, it smelled like rose perfume. I know I wasn’t imagining this at all and there is no way it was my friend’s perfume.

My question is, is it common for rosaries to be scented? The other ones I have received don’t smell so I was surprised this one did.

Maybe. I am not sure but roses are a scent associated with the virgin Mary. It means she is near. That rosary could simply be scented though

A friend brought back rosaries for all of us in bible study and they had a very strong rose smell. I couldn’t take the smell and gave it to another friend.

Yes, rose-scented rosaries are common, as are rosaries with rose-shaped beads and all kinds of other cool things.🙂

I have a pocket rosary (rosary ring, I think, is what people commonly called them) made to look like the crown of thorns.

Some rosary beads are made from pressed rose petals; others are simply scented with rosewater. It is extremely common.

If you want a rose scented rosary, look on Amazon. They sell them for about $1.00 more than the same rosary without the scent. (Unless they are trying to take advantage of a new buyer.)

I bought one to hang in my car to remind me to remember to pray my rosary. The scent eventually goes away, but it is still is a nice reminder.

👍

Some are also made of rosewood, if I’m not mistaken. 🙂
