Do any of you who are non-Catholic/Christians
pray the rosary?
Catholics feel free to share your own experience/practice with the rosary.
This is something that has been very much on my mind (I actually purchased one and had it blessed today by a priest) but I haven’t prayed with it yet. I’m struggling (as a Protestant) with the concept, yet I’m very much drawn to it. I understand that some in the High Anglican Church do this - though it is not a common practice.
Blessings,
Brian
You may be more interested in the Eastern Catholic prayer called the “Jesus Prayer”. “Lord Jesus Christ, Have Mercy On Me.” or “Lord Jesus Christ, Son of God, Have Mercy On Me.” This is a more ancient form of prayer as compared to the Rosary and is the way to “pray without ceasing” as the New Testament commands us.
Some who practice this unceasing prayer have been know, in today’s day and age, to literally glow as did the face of Moses in the Old Testament Times with the uncreated light of God.
You could use the Rosary you bought and had blessed to pray the Jesus Prayer; although it is more traditional to get a “Prayer Rope” with special knots - number of knots may very depending on the length of the rope - 33, 100, 300, etc.
With the words of the prayer for beginners you would time your breathing with the words - so as to pray with each and every breath you take. Some prefer doing it slowly: example: Inhale while praying “Lord Jesus Christ” Exhale while praying “Have Mercy on Me” and some prefer doing it quickly: example praying the prayer in full 3 times with each inhale and again 3 times with each exhale. Once one is more experienced with the prayer, each word is timed with every heart beat.
With practice, eventually, you are praying in your heart, with your heart while going about your day to day tasks of work, play, etc. even in your sleep!
Just an idea. It’s the Prayer I love and practice. In the past, I used to pray the Rosary - everyone is different, but for me, I feel closer to God with the Jesus Prayer.
