Catholicism has been a target in America since our nation was first founded. Expect more of this prejudice to continue. Another point - there is no critic of Catholicism more vitriolic than the ex-Catholic.
Ain’t that the truth! The rare exception I’ve heard on the radio is a guy named Hugh Hewitt - converted to Presbyterian, but he had defended Catholics quite a bit on his talk show.

Wow…to spend my day wondering what Rosie O’Donnell has to say about the church…

geez louise…some people need to get out more…

Do Rosie O’Donnells comments shake your faith to the core? do they even put a dent in it? If the answer is an obvious “no”…

just fagettaboutit!

IMHO the church was wrong in covering up years of scandal, just as much as the powers that be, knew what Foley was doing…and kept silent… amazing how human beings do dumb things…stupid things…and perverse things…no one is immune from thought or deed… we all have the free will to choose…some do not choose wisely…and suffer the consequesnces.

I really don’t watch tv, and when I do it is something very uplifting like the Simpson’s.
I did watch a few minutes of the view once, but it was full of Hollywood celebrities whose opinions I really don’t value too much.
I mean who really takes in what these people say as enlightened, the same people who read the National Inquirer?

September 22 1692 was the last day of hangings…
if my memory serves me correctly… .was it…

from the salem memorial

we will be missing this year due to the fact my wife is now 7 months pregnant, but being in salem for halloween is like being in Macys herald square NYC the week before Christmas… it’s festive and a fun time.

now why the pagans and wiccans have turned it into their little place i’ve never understood… there never were witches in salem… i figured new orleans would be much more ripe for congregating witch populations since there is a history of it there. but in salem… those were 19 very innocent people killed.

i’ve heard an interesting theory that the rye that year from the new england harvest was infested with a type of mold known to create hallucinations and mind-altering effects… may explain the ‘spectral evidence’ used against the accused.

The salem witch museum is truely a tourist trap. my favorite place there is the hawthorne house of the 7 gables.
great… now i’m missing going this year!!

ok… threadjacking complete… get back to the subject of rosie…
I realize that this is not the topec - But I have done a little studying of this subject (I am by no means an expert).

From what I could gather - the accusations were stemmed from land grabbers - if you were convicted of witchcraft - your land was confiscated and auctioned off. Also - there was a volitile political climate as to who backed up the local cleric (Paris, I believe) and who did not.

I think that is accurate - correct me if I am wrong.

Sorry for hijacking the thread.

I’ve been on this forum for five minutes and this is the first time I’ve been on in a long time. I am nauseated at how many times I’ve heard somebody joke about hanging, shooting, or burning at the stake somebody who disrespects Catholics. Three times in just three threads (the only three I’ve read thus far) is way too much.

Grow up and realize that orthodox Catholics are not the only ones who read this forum. You are setting a poor image of the Church, both present and past.
