Wait a second…

So the most charitable response to this…

The best fraternal correction we can come up with…

Is email and some kind of witch trial?

Amazing.
You’re right Frommi…this is all wrong!

Everyone! Stop writing e-mails and get your torches & pitchforks! You’re wasting time! On with the burning!!!

Exactly, it is wrong. Just stop watching the View!!! Rosie is not worth all of this, especially a good burning.

Email all you want…but I’d just point out that if Rosie put up the same picture and suggested that treatment for the Pope, most of you would be throwing your televisions out the window.

Set an example for crying out loud

…and we all know why Rosie O’Donnell is hypersensitive about the Church
I could never stand watching The View from the beginning…even before Rosie O.
I don’t watch the view, and never will, but it doesn’t take a rocket scientist to figure out why she is smearing the Church every chance she gets. There are many people like her who hate the Church and other churches for their stand against homosexual marriage, abortion, etc, which are subjects close to the heart of the entertainment industry. Pray for them, maybe we’ll get a miracle.

I agree that we should pray for them but I think too that we need to stop supporting her and others who gain more recognition by having a TV show. This is the same thing she did when she had her own show, using it as a soapbox for her personal issues.

I never watch talk shows unless I am at someone else’s house and they are watching them. Anyway, this isn’t surprising. Anti-Catholicism is rampant in our society.

Look there are only two ways Rosie will stop. Conversion of the heart (we need to pray for this) is one. The second is to hit her in the pocket book. Don’t watch, write to her sponsors and remember even negative publicity is still publicity so stop talking about it.

frommi,

Personally, I try to separate humor from attacks. Although some humor is in poor taste, and I accept your fraternal correction, I would not be as upset with Rosie if she were poking fun at Catholics - a lot of comedians do. I see the witch, pillaging, burning, et al, as simply humor. Though in poor taste, I still get a chuckle.

God bless,

Robert

just as a sidenote, none of the accused witches in salem, ma were burned. they were all hung, with the exception of giles corey, who was pressed to death.

ironically, none of them were witches, not one.

(my wife and i go to salem for halloween every year. fun town)

Thanks. As my Gx8 Grandmother was the last one hanged, the focus on the suffering of witches through the ages at one of the Salem museums kind of bugged me. As you pointed out, they weren’t witches! Very sad situation. They even reversed the convictions and gave compensation to the family. It wasn’t enough for my ancestors - they left for Nova Scotia. Apparently, they felt unwelcome. 😛

September 22 1692 was the last day of hangings…
if my memory serves me correctly… .was it…

from the salem memorial

we will be missing this year due to the fact my wife is now 7 months pregnant, but being in salem for halloween is like being in Macys herald square NYC the week before Christmas… it’s festive and a fun time.

now why the pagans and wiccans have turned it into their little place i’ve never understood… there never were witches in salem… i figured new orleans would be much more ripe for congregating witch populations since there is a history of it there. but in salem… those were 19 very innocent people killed.

i’ve heard an interesting theory that the rye that year from the new england harvest was infested with a type of mold known to create hallucinations and mind-altering effects… may explain the ‘spectral evidence’ used against the accused.

The salem witch museum is truely a tourist trap. my favorite place there is the hawthorne house of the 7 gables.
great… now i’m missing going this year!!

ok… threadjacking complete… get back to the subject of rosie…

I don’t necessairly disagree with you Robert…humor is needed in life…nor do I think anyone wants to plunge Rosie into a river to see if she is Satan.

However, I do think that most posting in this thread take themselves so seriously that anything humorous towards them is seen as “anti-Catholic”. I mean, I often wonder if Bill Donahoe (sp) ever laughs at anything, or if everything somehow is an Anti-Catholic moment in his life.

Shoot this guy an email. I did, and I eplained that my word of mouth as a Catholic can certainly have an affect on his ratings, So a little respect towards Catholics would be appreciated.

-D
I just emailed Mr. Geddie regarding Rosie’s comments about Holy Communion. I hadn’t even seen this latest. Ironic that Rosie is so aghast about the so-called “pedofile” scandal, when, really, its a homosexual scandle.

Congrats on the upcoming birth!

I didn’t see the memorial when I was there. If I make it back, I will look it up - my ancestor is Mary Estey (aka Esty, Easty, aka “selfless Mary” because she said before they hanged her that she accepted her lot but prayed that no other innocents were killed). Her two sisters were also hanged (one was Rebecca Nurse, made more famous by the books and movies). They buried the victims in undisclosed locations without markers, since they were “witches.”

😛 🙂

Sometimes, when we take too great offense at small things, we look ridiculous. However, it does seem that the Catholic Church and the Catholic faithful are a more accepted target than any other religion in todays media.

Catholicism has been a target in America since our nation was first founded. Expect more of this prejudice to continue. Another point - there is no critic of Catholicism more vitriolic than the ex-Catholic.

Thanks! I have a printed copy, but I’ll send this on to my Mom - she’s the geneologist/historian. She’ll like the photo.
