yeah this will be a boring thread
After watching the Pontifical High Mass in the Extraordinary Form on EWTN at midnight, the day it was on, I remembered some old questions that I thought of before but never got answered.
After watching the Pontifical High Mass in the Extraordinary Form on EWTN at midnight, the day it was on, I remembered some old questions that I thought of before but never got answered.
- The bishop has the right to replace “Dominus vobiscum” with “Pax vobis,” but when? “Dominus vobiscum” occurs 5 times during the Mass, 4 of which are by the celebrant. During which times is he allowed to do so? Bishop Perry (I believe that is his name) used it only before the Collect.
- During the Introit, I believed the schola (who did very good) said the refrain three times, with the verse between the first time and the Gloria Patri the second time. I thought the Introit had to be sung straight through, like every other sung proper during the Mass. I have heard both. Who is right?
- During the Pater Noster, there is a word I’ve heard pronounced two different ways: quotidianum I have heard pronounced, and am 100% sure I’ve seen spelled, cotidianum. I do not know what the words mean to distinguish the correct way. Which is right?
- When is the Gloria and Credo chanted at Mass? is there a rule, like, “the Gloria is said at all double feasts,” or something?
- what is the difference between singles and doubles, then those of the first class, second, etc.?
- In the Gloria, the words are, Gloria in excelsis Deo, but in the Latin Gospel of Luke, it is, 14 Gloria in altissimis Deo,
et in terra pax hominibus bonæ voluntatis.
which is different. Is there a reason for this?
If anyone can help it will be greatly appreciated. This will help me for my series on the Classical Mass on my blog.
Pax et bonum, Joseph
