Well it has already started. You know, rude tense people at the mall. Yesterday, I decided to go to an afternoon Mass at a chapel located at the mall. I pulled into a parking space and when I tried to exit my car I was greeted by a rude stare and eye roll from a woman in the car to my left. Instead of letting me exit and go on my way she ran to open her van door first. She refused to move so that I could exit my car even after I asked her politely. She finally agreed to move and told me that she was unhappy that I pulled into the space next to hers! She needed to get her 4 year old child out of the car, you see. She proceeded to tell me how thoughtless I was for parking next to her ! I really wanted to say something snarky and rude back to her but instead I simply said that I would move my car and wished her a happy Thanksgiving. I actually decided to go to confession and wisely the priest told me to pray for her. Online shopping is looking really good!

I know on-line shopping is easy and quick;I never realized it helped you avoid a near occasion of sin.

I admire how you handled the situation. The poor woman might have been frazzled; shopping with a small child can do that to you. I’ll try to remember your example when faced with stressful situations during the up-coming holiday season.

I think you handled the situation really well. Parking spaces are for parking in after all! Maybe she was having a bad day. Do you have parent & child parking in America? Here in the UK, they are in a separate area to normal spaces & are wider giving ample room for getting kids out etc

What a kind and gracious person you were to someone who wasn’t to you. I will remember your actions the next time I encounter a situation like yours.
Jesus I want to be humble, help me be more humble.

This post stuck a note with me.

A priest said once, “the hate we encounter sometimes comes from the pain of other people living in darkness.”

IMHO much of the day-to-day nasty behavior we encounter – whether it be rude shoppers; rude drivers; rude customers at a business; general nastiness i.e., internet flaming (and this board is no exception!) comes from people who are, sad to say, living in darkness/spiritual confusion. How else can we explain the vitriolic hate spewed forth over some minor things?

By way of example, there are a lot of people in the US who hate, and I mean HATE the Duggars and their 19 kids. If you want to think they’re in it for themselves; or think their brand of Christianity is over the top, or whatever – fine. But to hate them, with the blind slavering hatred put out against them? That’s just wrong.

The same people who hate on the Duggars - or who hate prolifers; or Catholics; or Americans; or people of the opposite political party, or whatever – will hate others for no provocation. Such hate is on them. not us. They key is not be like that, and to try not to give in to their hatred (beyond the right to defend oneself or to educate those who can be educated).

As Roy Campanella said, “hate don’t do good.”

Thank you for your kind words. I had to dig really deep not to snap back at her. But then I looked at her wide eyed scared little girl and wanted to avoid a fight for the child’s sake. The fact that I was on my way to Mass kept me calm! 😃

Many thanks for your kindness. Humility is a good thing and helps us to avoid unnecessary conflicts. I felt good letting her “win” the parking space contest. It felt good to pray for her too. The funny thing is by the time she returned to her car someone else would probably be in the parking space next to her. Hopefully my prayers helped her deal with that fact.

Thank you. I have to guess she was having a very bad day ,indeed. Yes, we have special parking spaces for parents with children at some grocery stores and malls. This mall may have those too but the lady was not in one of those spaces. She just had the idea that the spaces on both side of her and behind her should remain empty for her benefit. 🤷

First of all, I am so sorry that happened to you. 😦

A lot of this is this time of the year and will only get worse with Black Friday.

Sometimes, the stress of everything is overwhelming. I was in WalMart, yesterday, just to get groceries. Besides being this time of the year, they are remodeling, and I think expanding the entire store. They move things around. One day everything will be over here, and the next day it will be over there.

There was such an atmosphere of stress as people were also hurrying and scurrying. We kept asking where things were now moved to. I wanted some holiday cards, and nobody knew where those were, not even the workers.

My niece, who has a disability and uses a wheelchair, says she does her holiday shopping online ever since her wheelchair once hooked into a display and pulled that down.

Yesterday, with the remodeling, the aisles were WAY too close, and I asked a worker if she’d get me something down off the shelf, and she didn’t want to, said I could fit.

I tried it, and the small wheel spun as I was trying to leave, and hooked into something, pulled a bunch of stuff down that she ended up having to pick up.

Churches are packed, and with this electric chair, I don´t fit well. It causes stress.

I had one mass last year, I guess, where they kept telling me in church to move elsewhere…move elsewhere, move elsewhere. I finally got so upset with the overcrowding that I moved outside the church, kept going, went home! lol

If you could shop online, it would be one less rat in the rat race! lol

😉

Good luck, and God speed!

As to cars and such, there is “Road Rage”, and people have even gotten shot over that, so you exercised remakable restraint and self control. Good for you! 👍

Not to condone her behavior, but it does sound like she was having a really bad day, as well.

Hope the rest of your holiday season here on out goes better!

🙂

There are a few around, but not very many. This is Amurrica, darn it, and we’re all capable of handling stuff, and if you’re not, then go live in a communistic country.

A few baby supply stores have parking for expectant mothers, and I’m appalled at some of the mean-spirited comments I’ve heard. “Pregnancy isn’t a disability. If you can’t walk a few car lengths to shop, maybe you should stay home.”

It’s very sad.
