If all y’all are assuming that this means a dramatic change of course in Iraq, prepare to be disappointed. The efforts in Iraq are guided by more than one man.
Agreed! This most awesome and welcome news! 👍

The Dems take the House, its possible the Senate as well and now this! Its a new dawn in America. The flowers smell fresher and the sun is shining just a bit brighter. Now, the best and most important thng or those who voted to get rid the Gopd is to hold to accoount the Dems we put there! Dont make excuses when they screw up (like so many have done for the GOP) point it out and insist they fix it! God is still ansewering prayers with this Rumsfeld news! 🙂

This is the problem. Many people don’t take the time to educate themselves on issues. They get sound bites. The MSM is biased and where they find the Republican blemish, they will see the beauty in the Democrats or spin it so that what they do will not be so bad. That is what scares me. People are blinded by parties and don’t see issues.

That is why I am unaffiliated. They all need to work for my vote.

Speak for yourself. I am neither a Dem nor a Republican. The sun isn’t shining…the flowers look putrid and the whole election was one big dismal failure. 😛 😛 😦 I’ll keep ragging them (Both Sides) regardless.

Um, I am an independent as well. But I also choose to not be a gloom and doomer. Time will tell if the Dems will live up to their end, but in the meantime, I am happy because there is change over the corruption and lies and denial that made up the GOP for so long. I recognize both parties are failed excuses, for leadership, however I see the DNC as slightly less screwed up as the GOP, but I am still quite happy anyway. 🙂

Just having retired from 22 years active duty service in the Army, I have this sick feeling in the pit of my stomach that has grown steadily worse all day. None of us really knows what the fall out of today’s election results will be in terms of how things continue to run at home and overseas. But I do believe that we all need to pray earnestly. I’m just worried that things are going to get worse all around. No it won’t happen over night, but then again the moral decline of our nation didn’t happen over night either. We all need to pray for our country and our troops.

Support for our troops is foremost in my mind everyday. I admire these young people who give up so much to protect our country. And the families they leave behind are to be admired also.

I, too, am concerned for the future. Let us all pray.

Just a thought: there has always been friction between the brass at the Pentagon and the Secretary of Defense. There is also friction between the career State Department employees and the Secretary of State no matter who it is. That is why there are often problems with the folks in the White House who are career people there when a new administration moves in.

Our Dem friends have been all over the board about Iraq. Let’s see what they come up with. The ball is in their court now.

Exactly my thoughts. People are assuming he is “taking the fall”, but for all we know he may have approached Bush months ago and been asked to wait.
Rumsfeld and the Pres both have said in the past that Rumsfeld offered his resignation twice previous to this.

You believe that? The President basically admitted today to journalists he lied the other day about keeping Rumsfeld on for another 2 years.

I’m talking about a number of weeks and/or months before the election, long before now. I understand that he did not tell the press that something was in the works until after the election. May have been better for him if he had, but then the press would have made a political issue out of it.

It is rather nice, isn’t it? 🙂

I’m rather too busy trying to organise moving house to be as gleeful as I would be otherwise, which is probably good for my soul, but this has been a good couple of days 🙂

You notice that whenever Bush publicly praises someone, they seem to be out of a job PDQ, such as George Tenent, Mike “You’re Doing a heckuva job Brownie” Brown, and now Rummy. Good thing for Cheney that he’s elected, otherwise I think he would be out of a job next. I would be so stressed to work for someone like Bush. Could you imagine getting a good performance eval and wondering whether that means you’re going to get the ax the next day?

🙂 That’s been par for the course in UK poilitics for as long as I remember. Once the Prime Minister starts defending the job you’re doing, you’re on the way out.
