A good beginning for protecting children in the West could be to arrest and charge all parents who stand around gawking** at the** lewdness** and vulgarity displayed* at these pride* parades*** (their children standing along side of them) with child abuse for participating in the corruption of their children’s minds. Why introduce and encourage such a distructive and unhealthy lifestyle to children. There are huge fines for buying or selling cigarettes to those under 18 along with endless messages from the medical profession etc. regarding the dangers of smoking while HIV is rapidly growing and spreading in the general population and we advertise and advocate the behavior that causes it on our streets! *

As for alleged Roman Catholic adoption of new teaching that the f…s are a privileged category of sinners, it’s the first time that I hear this gibberish. It must be borrowed from Buddhism?
Even though you blocked the word out, that type of language shouldn’t be tolerated anywhere, especially a Christian website. It’s not appropriate.

Dear God, help me to help those that are born stupid ! J_Peterson, help me help those that didn’t get the penny drop ! I can only pray and hope for the malnourished and backward. The victims that give life are scarce. Pls. Pray for me a sinner x

If you are indeed a Catholic that is not the schismatic or dissident kind, you must have already come across the strongly worded Church teaching which we are obliged to heed, that no violence, malice or unjust discrimination should be directed at our homosexual brothers and sisters, that we should love and have compassion for them. At the same time, we are to regard homosexual acts as gravely sinful, and that we should not support or advocate for gay “marriage” and adoption of kids regardless that the gay movement and civil law are at odds with Church position.
,
That’s right. And report people who engage in name calling here.

Peace,
Ed

Indeed. Unfortunately, that one word says all that needs to be said about gsl’s position here.

What’s alarming (and what many people on this thread have been saying) is that this Russian law (because of its vagueness) is emboldening people to hate more openly and providing cover for their hatred. (And let’s be clear, hatred and dissent are two different things. Hatred and disagreement, however vehement the latter, are two different things.) Gsl’s resort to that word should be a caution that when violence is not explicitly condemned, it will be perceived as implicitly condoned.

Even in the relatively rarefied virtual reaches of an otherwise well-meaning Christian forum, the perception that someone could feel comfortable expressing hateful speech is a sign that somewhere something is amiss.

Catherine, is it your contention that we need more parents in prison? That seems an odd position to take.

It’s fine that you believe “Pride” parades are abusive to children. They’re often and certainly an affront to aesthetics (there tends to be a lot of disco and popular music played loudly. I’m not a fan of disco or most popular music), or at least that’s how I’ve experienced them when I’ve experienced them. They tend to impede having a quiet stroll around Washington Square Park on the last Sunday in June. They tend to display an out-sized caricature of sexuality which, when it’s not being silly, is often rather tiresomely lewd. Whether or not they’re abusive to children who may witness them is a much stickier point altogether, though. Viewed one way or another, most things can be seen as abusive (i.e., negatively formative) to children. I imagine that mommy and daddy arguing on a regular basis, though, is more damaging than passing by a raucous “pride” parade on the way to the supermarket, or even stopping to stare at one. I imagine that watching the nightly news or listening to it over the radio exposes one to more venality and evil than a glimpse of a “pride” parade.

All of which is to say, Catherine, that when we are in the throes of moral dudgeon, sometimes perspective flies out the window. Suggesting that prison is a better place for a parent because of a “pride” parade is shockingly lacking in perspective. You might do better to advocate for parents to better contextualize their children’s experience within a moral framework with which you agree. But prison? The suggestion is simply detached from reality and consequently absurd. And morality should be neither detached from reality nor absurd.

I would strongly suggest this excellent documentary which I saw on PBS
a few years ago… it’s called “For God, Tsar, and Fatherland” -
if you are serious about understanding why the Russian people love Putin.

I finally watched this documentary. The Brits should pray that the people like those ones shown in this movie will continue to rule in Russia. Typical complex of inferiority: Britain ruled, now it’s our turn to rule (it was said during the picnic party, somewhere in the middle of the film). Figuratively, they want (they dream) to drink tea from the same cup as their masters.
The people like them are the hope of campaigning sexual perverts.

It is not always the case that the enemy of your enemy is your friend, Catherine. Blind support of the enemy of your enemy may prove rather uncomfortable to you when the reality of your new “friend’s” actions and intentions become more clear.

All of this support of Putin’s Russia puts me in mind of Paul Robeson’s misguided and unthinking support of Stalin. While it may have appeared on paper as if civil and human rights were much more advanced in the USSR at the time, the reality of the situation, as we now know, was much much much more horrific. As a civil and human rights leader, Robeson’s blind support of Stalin indelibly and lastingly tarnished his reputation, his credibility, and his moral authority.

You’re absolutely right–and you’ll notice that I didn’t compare Putin and Stalin. I compared Robeson’s blind support of Stalin to the blind support of Putin’s Russia from otherwise well-meaning religious people and organizations on account of these laws under discussion. Robeson’s loss of moral authority because of his blind support should be a caution to those of us who are tempted to think we can blindly support any political regime and still maintain an untarnished moral credibility.

The thing is, I don’t know where this notion of blind support is coming from. Putin exists is a radically different environment from Stalin (this is a very important factor when making comparisons). Whilst reliable information about Stalin was scarce and hard/impossible to come by; Putin, in this age of information technology, has enemies tripping over themselves to air his dirty laundry to the western public.

Now, you may be right in thinking some of the people who support Putin are as ill informed as Robeson; but this was purely an assumption on your part (and thus the type of ignorance you are criticising above?).

Russia has been in the news with its recently implemented law, which bars “propaganda of non-traditional sexual relations to minors.” Obviously this is a law in line with God’s moral law. However, there are incidents of anti-gay violence, and Putin, as an ex-member of the KGB is obviously no friend of the church.

How do we speak out against violence and injustice, without implying approval for homosexuality? How do we speak out against homosexuality in Russia without aligning with Putin and his thugs?
Yo allow the persecution of any group is always wrong. One need not discuss homosexuality but concentrate upon persecution,

Seriously speaking–do you really think that anyone in America can truly have any impact on someone like Putin? Having said that–and this in no way is meant to imply that I feel that homosexuals should be treated other than with respect as God’s children–if Putin has been watching TV at all, and has seen what our pro-gay laws have done to this country, he probably is validly concerned that Russia might go down the same septic tank chute as the USA!

consonant news from the New World:

2010, OTTAWA – The capital is known for its museums of culture, agriculture and war – now Canadians can add an exhibit that provides teens advice on anal sex to the list of Ottawa’s attractions.

The Museum of Science and Technology is hosting Sex: A Tell-All Exhibition

“It very quickly became apparent to myself and my wife that this was revolting,” parent [Name] told QMI Agency. “They were encouraging kids to have multiple partners, have anal sex, and the words they used were inappropriate. This felt like a sexual agenda being pushed.”

That is 100% true. The Russians have carefully watched what is going on in America and Western Europe and they are rightly horrified. Their action was necessary.

WASHINGTON, D.C., September 13, 2013 (Americans for Truth) - The above is a graphic from a CDC (Centers for Disease Control and Prevention) online slide presentation, “HIV Surveillance in Adolescents and Young Adults” [1] – breaking down the incidence of HIV among young men ages 13-24. In 2011, an astonishing 94.9 percent of HIV diagnoses among teenage boys (13-19-years-old) were linked to homosexual (“male-to-male”) sex. And 94.1 percent of the cases among young men ages 20-24 (more analysis below) were from “gay” sex.
With the incidence of HIV among men so closely tied to homosexual sex, shouldn’t the government and all concerned and compassionate adults be urging young men and teenaged boys not to engage in or experiment with dangerous homosexual behavior? And yet, the CDC and other pro-”gay” institutions (including many schools public and private) are doing exactly the opposite, as they focus instead on affirming “gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender” youth as a “sexual minority.”

ROME, September 13, 2013 (LifeSiteNews.com) – “A population that does not take care of the elderly and of children and the young has no future, because it abuses both its memory and its promise,” Pope Francis said on Friday.
The pope’s message comes as the Italian parliament prepares to reconvene and resume discussion of the proposed “anti-homophobia” law that critics have said is meant as a wedge to create “social space” for “gay marriage.”
