When I attended grade school (several decades ago), we were taught that the eastern edge of the European landmass was at the Ural Mountains range. So a good chunk of Russia would be part of Europe; certainly the most populated portion of the country.

Russia, of course, spans both continents. But, as others have said, most of its population is on the “European” side, and Russia itself identifies as “European” in culture.

Kind of like how Turkey, though also spanning both continents, is generally referred to as a “Middle Eastern” or “Asian” country, even though part of it lies within Europe.

Rome doesn’t even have a “Holy Alliance”, within it’s own Roman Rite Church, let alone having one with Orthodox christianity. They need to focus on cleaning up their own house first.

Russia is european, as it’s people are european. The most populated areas are in the European side. The asian side is Siberia, and used to be mostly of the old siberian tribes. Russia, in general is European because its people are from Europe, and have followed European culture.
