But what prompted the change in tone? They both address Ukraine churches, and by all accounts the meeting went well. That article is from 4 days ago, so obviously it isn’t the same situation or context.
If the article is quoting the Metropolitan correct, in particular his statements on the Jesuits, then the difference in tone is not particularly meaningful.
I am Orthodox and agree with this statement. The strength of Orthodoxy is the maintainence of litergy and traditional beliefs and practices. The weakness is the parochialism of the different branches. There is an element in Russia that believe their church became the “New Rome” Byzantium fell. Being big, they are a bit of a bully- I apologize for being blunt.I find the hierarchy of the Russian Orthodox Church to be irritating. Of all of the Orthodox branches they are the most pushy and cantankerous.
They can be so shrill.
Thanks. I really respect Orthodoxy and have the utmost respect for Bartholomew.I am Orthodox and agree with this statement. Nothing wrong with that in my view.I apologize for being blunt.
I have no idea as to why the tone changed, though it is quite obvious that something did. I don’t claim to understand the situation and I suppose it could be anything from new marching orders from Kirill to changes in direction from Putin depending on whether you believe the rumors regarding how closely tied Russian Orthodoxy is with the government. But what prompted the change in tone?
