I suspected they were awful, but I hadn’t appreciated just how awful they were.

I’d give them 7 years just for crimes against music, and my ears

I can see just how offensive they were now.

Sarah x 🙂

They should be imprisoned for 21 years!
Charges:
Crimes against music
Crimes against the senses (My eyes and ears bled!)
Hooliganism
Being pretentious posers who claim to be musicians when in reality, they are hacks

угхх…их музыка такая хуйня…seriously, give me back the 30 seconds of my life I just wasted hearing that. I feel like they insulted my ears.

If “gay pride” is sent in chains to Siberia (whatever the heck that even means), I hope you and your instruments won’t be far behind, ladies. I rarely read (let alone agree) with Youtube comments, but the presence of several comments in Spanish on a video from Russia caught my eye, and this one is spot on:

‘que bueno que arrestaron a las pendejas, protestan de cosas que no saben ni entienden, como aqui en espana, o en londres en las protestas, o incluso en Mexico con el presidente que critican nomas porque no habla ingles, la gente es muy criticante y piensa que son perfectos, nadie es perfecto’ danG0713 2 hours ago

“It’s very good that they arrested these morons. They protest things they don’t know nor understand, just like here in Spain, or in London; or in Mexico where they critique the president just because he doesn’t speak English. People are very critical and think that they are perfect. Nobody is perfect.”

And that’s just it. All this garbage how harmful religion is because people are “hypocrites”, yeah, well I don’t think striving to be the kind of people who dress up like fools and hold “punk protests” with their awful bands with the guitar skills of Captain Hook is really even very hard to do, so I have no idea what it even means to compare yourselves favorably to others when you have such low goals. These losers would just be another awful garage band if not for this stunt, which brought nothing but unwarranted publicity to a bunch of hacks with nothing even slightly interesting to say. Funny how two decades ago, when it was still “illegal” and organizations like Moscow Rock Laboratory and the Leningrad Rock Club were popping up as KGB-funded and monitored pigpens for the undesirable, politically aware Russian groups made music that was both much more musically interesting/adventurous and also politically provocative to the point of being dangerous (which is why the writer of the two songs linked, as many others in the good old bad days of the USSR, was sent to a mental hospital for reeducation by the KGB in the mid-late 80s…)

Today, Russia has P***y Riot. And go figure, singing their dumb song isn’t bringing down Putin or whatever. Egor Letov must be rolling over in his grave…

Everybody protests about how terrible they have it without remembering or realizing how terrible their parents or grandparents had it. My grandfather was born in 1911 on a farm in Illinois that had no electricity and managed to somehow make it through medical school just in time for the Great Depression to hit, and he still went and fought the Nazis all across Europe without complaining. Some of these ladies’ relations probably suffered under Stalin, and/or were killed or widowed in WWII. I think you’ll be fine, girls.

So okay, I feel the blasphemy is bad, but I think the big issue is that these “musicians” feel that the state has too much influence on the church, and vice versa. Even though it might seem great if it happened, do any of you think it would be good if catholicism was made the state church (more likely it would just be christianity). I guess I see it as if we persecute those who hate us (i.e people who talk bad of the church) then those who hate us might want to get rid of us. It’s a slippery slope. I don’t support blasphemy (the band should have been a lot smarter), but would any of you rather have a theocracy like Iran where anyone not of our religion is put in jail
Russia doesn’t have a theocracy like Iran. Russia is simply bringing back its traditions which it held before the Soviet Union- which sponsored state atheism… something I’m sure this disgusting band would no doubt support. Anyways, other than the 80 years under Soviet control Russian history has been dominated by an ironclad union between Church and State. Iran became a theocracy in the 1970’s… Russia was never even a theocracy; more like a monarchy in which the Russian Orthodox Church was one of pillars of Russia.

And yes… that reminds me of an old term I remember from world history: “the three pillars of Russian Absolutism”. The three pillars were: Autocracy, Orthodoxy, and Nationalism. That is what Russia was about for its entire history all the way until the Bolshevik revolution. The Putin government is very popular in Russia. Just because the global media doesn’t like them doesn’t mean we should dislike them.

In fact Catholics should support the government of Russia. Why? Because the Russian Orthodox Church does. This is a great blessing for Christianity! Russia is part of the Christian world again!!! This is a fulfillment of the prophecies of Fatima!

Like the group they’re supporting, it appears other protesters believe that there right of free speech now extends to church property, i,e on the church steps, in front of the iconostasis. What parishoners need to do is to start physically ejecting these blasphemous hooligans.

Of course not:shrug:

Perhaps it was not a true/pure theocracy, but it sounds like the Russia of the Czars definitely had a strong theocratic element.

Okay, so because a government is christian that forgives some abuses? Look, I am glad that Russia is returning to their christian roots, but there are some things that make me a little wary of the putin regime. I mean even if a government is christian does that mean we let them get away with certain things? Also I feel there is a difference between being theocratic and just having a state church. Many countries have an official church but allow freedom of religion (many latin american countries do this, the UK, etc). However i just feel a theocratic government goes to far. This isn’t the middle ages and i feel theocratic governments are very prone to abuses (all governments are when you think about it). That being said, I do agree that the band in the video probably is for state atheism and all that junk, and I think they were stupid to protest in a church, and could of easily made the same statement just standing on the sidewalk outside of the church.

We have a winner!

Yes, especially since in the USA, you can get life in jail if you are hungry and steal a slice of pizza.
If you’re in California and have two previous serious or violent falonies on your record, yes. It’s not like the guy was all good and pure and is now in the slammer on a first offense. A grown man with a felony record walked up to a group of teens and pre-teens and stole something from them.

I agree that the punishment is overkill, but your post makes it sound like the pizza police travel the streets of America, just waiting to fill up our jails with slice-filching ne’er-do-wells.

Even though they’re turning into liberal martyrs, I’m glad that something is being done about it, as it is only just. I’m fed up with being told that we are to tolerate all sorts of absurdities in the name of some particular freedom.

We are to tolerate abortion and euthanasia in the name of freedom of choice, or the freedom to do whatever one pleases with their own body.

We are to tolerate homosexual marriage in the name of freedom to family life.

We are to tolerate blasphemy in the name of freedom of speech or freedom of religion or whatever.

Freedom of speech, as with any freedom, is not and should not be absolute, but is circumscribed by certain laws. We even see that freedom of speech is limited in the West. Increasingly, it is being circumscribed by “hate laws” and such like, which make it a no-no to state certain common sense opinions in public, as they do not mesh with the official state ideology.

Even in the absence of such laws, if I were to go on TV and start blabbing whatever nation’s military secrets to an audience of millions, I shouldn’t expect that sort of behaviour to be tolerated, no matter how liberal the country.

Similarly, if I were to start spreading damaging lies about my neighbour that he is a serial rapist, he might rightly sue me for defamation.

I cannot see why freedom of speech might extend to obscene behaviour on the property of the Russian Orthodox Church.

If they’re on their own or on public property and wish to demonstrate their opinions with a performance and with placards saying, “Putin sucks” and “The ROC is in bed with Putin” then fine. Whether or not the Putin regime might tolerate something like that is another matter, and I’m not defending it.

But what P*ssy Riot did was indefensible. They might have got a free pass in the liberal-minded West, though even then it’s possible they might have had to answer for trespassing.

And I feel sort of insulted having to read мат on a Catholic forum. To each their own, right?

I don’t think that they are good musicians, nor do I think it was right of them to stage their act inside the cathedral. But I do have some qualms with any secular government prosecuting people for blasphemy (a religious offense).

They’re being prosecuted for hooliganism, pretty much disorderly conduct, which is a crime in the U.S. If this was a mosque or a university lecture people would be calling them intolerant. As I said before, community service would have sufficed. I just can’t believe people want them to get off and pretend acting like a bunch of jerks is heroic.

Also, has anyone been reading bbc… They completely ignore the worshippers side and act like it’s just Putin wanting to get back at them; I really doubt he’s going to lose sleep over these three.

I am no fan of Putin, but for a country where 59% of people declare no religion, it seems the courts have refused to bow to international pressure and let such an act of hooliganism go unpunished.

This is more than can be expected from the liberal countries in the rest of Europe, where people are ostensibly more religious.
