China does a lot of things illegally. Copyright infringements everywhere among other things. However we won’t be imposing sanctions on them soon. Maybe because we like their food too much.

I stand by my assessment that Spadaro did an excellent job putting his finger on what bothers many American Catholics about the way politics and religion are taking on an Fundamentalist Evangelical flavor among more politically conservative members of the Church.

I think it comes down to what Bishop Barron describes as the difference between the Protestant either/or and the Catholic both/and ways of thinking.

By the way you disparage as “progressive” anyone who does not share your particular world view, I’d say you are definitely an either/or kind of thinker. You may not be aware of it, because you are steeped in an environment that assumes that is how things should be.

Spadaro & Pope Francis are both/and thinkers - that’s not progressive, its just Catholic.

Who’s tweet today even bragged about how smart Russia was and how dumb this country is.
I believe the word Rosenstein used was “unwitting.”

And if Trump objects, it’s his funeral.

And we’re supposed to think 13 Russians with some kind of “tweet factory” in Russia that appears to have been inept anyway, persuaded American voters of anything? It just doesn’t persuade.
Perhaps you expected a group of men telling people, “Everybody to get from street”?

I don’t think so. I heard they hid their accents. And they didn’t come looking for Olympic hockey tips either. They beat us there too.

The 13 Russians indicted funded the troll farm, entered the country illegally, stole identities, didn’t register as agents of a foreign country, etc…
Maybe it’s not at the southern border that we need a wall.

Despite all the denials by the Dems here on CAF, the DNC and the Clinton organization never directly denied thinking the Catholic Church “medieval” or “backward”
I’m curious. Was this ever discussed in the Traditional Catholic forum? Seems like Keane, Biden, Pelosi and others weren’t the least bit offended by Clinton’s anti-“Catholic” rhetoric.

Your statement is beyond ridiculous. No person or group goes around denying something that never occurred to them.
Pretty weak. If Trump lets five seconds go between some tragedy and a statement, he’s blasted for it. The DNC gets caught expressing its disdain for the Catholic Church, never denies it, and it’s okay.

I don’t know. Keane, Biden, Pelosi and the other Catholic Dems weren’t offended by the anti-Catholic rhetoric because they believe the same thing.

Clinton did not spout “anti-Catholic rhetoric” just because she has a couple of positions that don’t jibe with Catholic teachings. If one here believes as such, should we accuse them of having “anti-Methodist rhetoric”?

Pelosi and Biden and Keane have shown themselves to be quite strong Catholics even though they are not always in lock step with the church. Heck, since well over 90% of Catholics don’t agree with the church’s stance on not using artificial birth control, does that make them also “anti-Catholic”?

Not what I said. The Wikileaks disclosures of anti-Catholicism were of others in the DNC. And it was a lot more than simply disagreeing with doctrine. The Church was called “medieval” and “backward” and the DNC supports Catholic dissident organizations.

As promoters of abortion on demand, how are Pelosi, Biden and Keane “quite strong Catholics”?
Even the majority of Americans at large don’t agree with them on that, and certainly not the majority of Catholics.

This is an important point folks around here should at least attempt to understand. CAF is not representative of the majority of American Catholics.

EXCERPT FROM FBI INDICTMENT pg. 14:
  1. ORGANIZATION employees, referred to as “specialists,” were tasked to create social media accounts that appeared to be operated by U.S. persons. The specialists were divided into day-shift and night-shift hours and instructed to make posts in accordance with the appropriate U.S. time zone. The ORGANIZATION also circulated lists of U.S. holidays so that specialists could develop and post appropriate account activity. Specialists were instructed to write about topics germane to the United States such as U.S. foreign policy and U.S. economic issues. Specialists were directed to create “political intensity through supporting radical groups, users dissatisfied with [the] social and economic situation and oppositional social movements.”
  2. Defendants and their co-conspirators also created thematic group pages on social media sites, particularly on the social media platforms Facebook and Instagram. ORGANIZATION- controlled pages addressed a range of issues, including: immigration (with group names including “Secured Borders”); the Black Lives Matter movement (with group names including “Blacktivist”); religion (with group names including “United Muslims of America” and “Army of Jesus”); and certain geographic regions within the United States (with group names including “South United” and “Heart of Texas”). By 2016, the size of many ORGANIZATION-controlled groups had grown to hundreds of thousands of online followers.

If this is the same St. Petersburg organization, a member of which was earlier interviewed by WaPo, it was almost a parody of itself. Most of it was directed at Russian audiences in Russian sources.

Numerically, the tweets were miniscule. Financially, the effort was a joke. It almost seems as if the Russians did this token “interference” (against both candidates by the way) in order to exacerbate the already tense American political situation. No matter who won, the other side could claim the winner only won because of “Russian interference”.

And so it did.

Personally, I’m willing to believe the Russians are more clever than this dopey effort indicates.

EXCERPT FROM FBI INDICTMENT pg. 16

Use of Stolen U.S. Identities
41. In or around 2016, Defendants and their co-conspirators also used, possessed, and transferred, without lawful authority, the social security numbers and dates of birth of real U.S. persons without those persons’ knowledge or consent. Using these means of identification, Defendants and their co-conspirators opened accounts at PayPal, a digital payment service provider; created false means of identification, including fake driver’s licenses; and posted on ORGANIZATION-controlled social media accounts using the identities of these U.S. victims. Defendants and their co-conspirators also obtained, and attempted to obtain, false identification documents to use as proof of identity in connection with maintaining accounts and purchasing
advertisements on social media sites.

When it comes to abortion on demand, though, it is.
Is it? Really? It strikes me that a good many Catholics only have mildly negative views of abortion; as in “well, it’s bad and all, but…”

The article below suggests that there are a lot more divisions among American Catholics even on issues surrounding abortion:

Let’s not beat around the bush here. Those who favor the older liturgy and older practices are called “backward” and there are a ton of people who call them that, not just DNC. Even the Pope has hinted this position. I don’t see it as anti-Catholic.

There are certainly things about which American Catholics differ, but there isn’t a lot of disagreement about abortion. 89% of Catholics believe abortion is sinful. Only a tiny minority think otherwise.
