Of course, this is from the San Francisco Chronicle:

sfgate.com/cgi-bin/article.cgi?f=/c/a/2008/10/18/BA0H13JPJI.DTL

This is not a news article but a column. However, I just heard the columnist speak on the local news radio station. Both he and the interviewer seemed to have no clue about what the Catholic Church actually represents.

Excerpts from the column:

In a perfect world, Niederauer would stand up to the church to say that he knows many gay and lesbian married couples and that their unions do not threaten anyone. But the reality is that church leaders get their marching orders from what Mulcahey calls “a fax machine in the Vatican,” and taking a stand against the hierarchy is a no-win situation.

Others wonder how the church happened to pick this issue. After all, among the proposals on the ballot is one about parental notification before an abortion. Why not take a stand on that?

It is irrational babling that is based on relativism and hedonism. The guy opposes the Catholic view because everyone should do what feels good. And he expects the bishop to accept his relativism and treat it as if it is absolute. It is insanity.

Interesting to see how far from the rest of American reality San Francisco is.

The priest there sounds like he’s compromised so much that he’s in an utter mess of a contortion.
