A person arguing with me about the Sabbath, said this-
This is another future event.
Isaiah 66:23:-“And it shall be from new moon to new moon And from sabbath to sabbath, All mankind will come to bow down before Me,” says the LORD.
So in the future people are going to worship God in the new moons and the Sabbaths!!!
How would you respond to this argument. I have pointed out to him from the New Testament as well as church history that we keep the Lord’s day and not the Sabbath, but I am interested in knowing as to how we could interpret the above verse which he has quoted.

It seems to me that the quote is not saying so much that all worship will be on the Sabbath, but that it worship will be for all time at all times. New moon to new moon encompasses a complete lunar cycle, and sabbath to sabbath can be seen as a complete weekly cycle, so it seems to me that the passage is stating that there will be no end to worship. The people understood a lunar cycle, and they understood the anchoring of the week as being Sabbath to Sabbath, so I would think they would have understood the passage to mean an unending cycle of time.

Which is greater: the prophet, or the One announced in his prophesy? Our Lord Jesus is Lord also of the Sabbath. As Saint Paul teaches us:

Colossians 2:13-17 When you were dead in your sins and in the uncircumcision of your sinful nature, God made you alive with Christ. He forgave us all our sins, having canceled the written code, with its regulations, that was against us and that stood opposed to us; he took it away, nailing it to the cross. And having disarmed the powers and authorities, he made a public spectacle of them, triumphing over them by the cross. Therefore do not let anyone judge you by what you eat or drink, or with regard to a religious festival, a New Moon celebration or a Sabbath day. These are a shadow of the things that were to come; the reality, however, is found in Christ.

Thanks for this explanation. 🙂
Jesus, from all eternity, knowing that He was the new and everlasting covenant between God and man, chose to rise from the dead on the first day of the week - Sunday. This does not change the Sabbath, but fulfills it with the “Lord’s day”, when the Apostles all gathered to worship. He appeared to them (John 20:19) on Sunday. He re-appeared the next Sunday when Thomas was there, so that Thomas might stop doubting, and believe (John 20:26). Jesus also ascended on Sunday (Mark 16:19), thus revealing that He was, indeed, “Lord of the Sabbath” (Matthew 12:8, Mark 2:28, Luke 6:5).

Jesus did not rise from the dead on the Sabbath. He did not appear to the Apostles or others on the Sabbath. He did not ascend on the Sabbath. The Holy Spirit did not descend upon the Apostles on the Sabbath. Why? Jesus is both Lord of the Sabbath, and the New Covenant.

Some Christians, notably the Seventh Day Adventists and Seventh Day Baptists, still observe the Old Testament Saturday Sabbath. This is contrary to the Apostolic practice and seeks to retain bits and pieces of the Old Testament Mosaic Covenant, while disregarding much of the rest of it. It is not a mainstream Christian practice and, from scriptural references, never has been.
