Can Catholics observe both Sunday and the Jewish sabbath following all the old prohibitions? Is doing so heretical?

Saint Thomas Aquinas argued that observing any portion of the Mosaic law was tantamount to denying that Christ had come in the flesh. He thought it a mortal sin.

Interesting. There are many portions of the Mosaic law that do not seem proper for a Catholic (or, in fact, any Christian) to follow; however, some of the 613 Mitzvot (Commandments) seem to be core tenets of Christianity as well, such as believing in the existence of God, to love God, and to emulate His ways. However, as I said, there are portions that are quite improper for Catholics, such as the Passover, Yom Kippur, and Rosh Hashanah rules.

I’m curious, OP, why exactly did you want to follow the Jewish sabbatical laws?
 
As a sort of self mortification and self denial. Wanting to emulate the way Jesus lived also played a small part.

Interesting. Why don’t you look for other ways of self-mortification that are practiced by Catholics?
