REBEL priest Father Peter Kennedy has rejected proposed mediated talks with Brisbane Archbishop John Bathersby unless moves to sack him from St Mary’s church are abandoned.

After an estimated 1600 people turned out for Sunday morning mass at the inner-city Brisbane church, Fr Kennedy vowed he would continue to defy Dr Bathersby’s decree last week to remove him as administrator of St Mary’s Church while he has the support of the congregation. . . .

Before the service ended, Fr Kennedy assured parishioners he would be back next week for Sunday mass. . . .

"It is sad that he is not here today because if he was here, he couldn’t possibly move against this community,’’ Fr Kennedy told the service.

"We are a Vatican II community - at least we try to be.’’

Outside church, Fr Kennedy said he saw no point in proposed mediation talks with Dr Bathersby.

"These allegations against us have not been tested, there has been no justice in this process,’’ he said.

"So we will continue…I take my authority from the people.

"If they didn’t want me, then I would go.’’

Vatican II community aye…good enuff reson to abandon the Liturgical Shipwreak that is Vatican II in my opinion.

I live 2 or 3 streets away from this Church…and I saw all the heritics packing st Mary’s as I passed on my way to a CATHOLIC Mass.

Oh…I see. It is so clear now. The authority this priest has is not from Christ and the Catholic Church and the vows he took to obey are for not. I completely understand now.:rolleyes:

His excuses are lame and his disobedience to his local ordinary is abhorrent.:mad: Ends do not justify means. That is part of moral theology and he being a priest should understand that. I do not long for anyone to be excommunicated, but at the rate he is going it seems that it will eventually become a likelihood.

I truly hope the spirit of rebellion will be quelled and order restored to that parish. As we approach Lent, we should pray for our lost brethren and that they submit to the authority of the Church.

Personally, I hope he gets arrested for criminal trespass, and defrocked. He REALLY needs the wakeup call that the Bishop is the man who is in charge.

Sad, really, that His Grace let it get this far.

His grace has a monumental task ahead of him. This parish is enough work alone, especially considering the parish is supported by the Premier of Queensland, the Prime Minister of Australia and the Govenor General of Australia. And if His Grace can sort out this parish, he has the rest of his archdiocese to consider…
 
Do you think the laity at this parish are, not coerced, but somehow pressured into supporting this “Priest”? To remove a Priest from a parish isn’t NEARLY as hard as dealing with the laity. I think Cardinal George in Chicago has the same problem with “Father” Michael Pfleger.
 
Suppress the parish, excommunicate the priest and the leadership in the parish.

I seem to remember reading Vat IIs document on the liturgy just the other day which said not even the priest has the right to change the words at Mass - so much for being a Vatican II community.

99.9999…% of all Christians believe in the Virgin birth, that their is heaven and these are just 2 examples of things this ‘priest’ rejects. :mad:
 
I’m not Christian, but I like reading about prophecy. I find the word of this Christian holy man striking

Perhaps…or you can view in light of the 20th century and the rise of socialism, modernism, and nihilism and everything else that happened in that century. However, I have never been one for prophecies, and it is a vague prophecy.

Of course it can be applied to the French Revolution. The “5th period” in the prophecy INCLUDES the French Revolution 🙂

The French Revolution began in the late 18th century so by your own lights this prophecy is striking! 🙂
 
Or I can take it and apply it to the fall of Rome by barbarian invaders. The way it is written allows it to fall into many periods of time; however, this particular event in question doesn’t necessarily give light to the prophecy. Nevertheless, one shouldn’t pay too much attention to such things, but rather should live each day as it were their last. Trails, tribulation have been foretold long before this prophecy. I know you are not Catholic, but Catholics are not supposed to be looking for signs to tell us the end is near or persecution is afoot. We are supposed to lead our lives as if it may be taken at any moment, so prophecies, though nice, are not our focal point.

The prideful folly of this renegade priest I can understand completely,but why would 1,600 parishoners endanger their souls and salvation?Is this a cult of personality?
 
If he really cared about his congregation, he would make a compromise with the Bishop that would allow the parish to continue with its special mission, but within the limits allowed. There are so many ways he could do that.

But instead he is carried away by pride and would rather lead his parish to hell than submit to the bishop. What a shame.
