Sacrilegious Reception of Communion?

What sin of omission are you talking about?
I am talking about doing something in order to cover up the fact that he is really not taking communion because of mortal sin. A lie by omission is when you fail to mention an important fact by misrepresenting the truth. Eating before mass is indeed a valid reason not to take the Eucharist. Purposely eating in order to make it seem like that is the reason he is not taking communion, when in fact the real reason is he feels he’s committed a mortal sin is a lie by omission.

Yeah, I’m sure
You are never allowed to receive communion 3 times in a day unless the third time is in the form of Viaticum. When they say twice a day, they are talking about twice in a 24 hour period from midnight to midnight. So if you went to a vigil mass on Saturday night and received communion, you could receive it twice on Sunday and be okay. However, if you are attending a midnight mass that actually starts at midnight you would be receiving communion on Sunday. If you also went to mass at dawn and during the day, you could not receive communion at both masses.

Sorry my mistake :o, I shall also let my Priest know his mistake, he must of read his information wrong, mea culpa!

Yeah, I’m sure
OK. I know that you can receive communion twice on the same day, but not normally. For example, if you have attended your regular daily mass in the morning, and then you attend either a funeral mass or a wedding mass in the afternoon of the same day, then sure, you can receive communion again. That Canon Law provision was a permission granted to the faithful for exceptional situations like this. Ordinarily, however, (and that is what I mean by normally), you receive communion only once a day. Of course, you normally attend mass also only once a day if you have the habit of attending daily mass.

I am not an expert on Canon Law or the Sacraments. I am not a priest or a Eucharistic Minister. So, the above is just my understanding of Church regulations. Peace.

You are misrepresenting the truth when you are twisting or distorting the facts. But you are not distorting any fact here. When you eat shortly before mass starts, then you are simply creating another fact that enables you to hide the state of your soul, and that enables you to make a valid excuse for not going to communion.

Besides, I don’t think you are committing a sin of omission when you are hiding the truth from someone who does not have the business of knowing the truth. The state of your soul, for example, is a matter that you need to reveal to the priest during confession, but you are under no obligation to reveal it to anyone else, not even your parents. That said, it is still your option if it makes you more comfortable telling the truth to your parents. Your choice.

Again, Merry Christmas!

Hope you had a good time. 🙂 Merry Christmas & God bless you

Ill be receiving sacreligously as well tonight. I used to skip communion, but my parents were really bothered by it, and my family is more important than following church teaching for me. I choose to seek Jesus, and when I receive I say Lord, I don’t mean to offend. I don’t play this mortal sin game. God is love. Count your blessings. Don’t be stressed out about this. Walk in peace.
Oh, get a spine.

Excellent. Now go to confession soon so it doesn’t happen again next time.

I committed a mortal sin multiple times over a period of time. A battled it for a while, and was mostly succeeding… until recently. Specifically: between my last Confession and now.

During this time of uncleanliness I continued to receive Communion. I never realized what I was doing. Then, a week before a scheduled Confession I realized that I had been receiving Communion sacrilegiously. I still received Communion that week.

Why? Because I go to Mass with my parents. If I hadn’t received Communion, they would have questioned me…

Question #1: Was that reception of Communion a mortal sin?

Question #2: Today is Christmas Eve. In approximately 4.5 hours I will attend Midnight Mass with my parents. What do I do? Receive Communion or not? (Read the first paragraph again) If not, what do I tell my parents?

Please, I need quick. Thanks.
You are in one heck of a predicament.

Other thoughts:

As a parent, I do afford my kids the opportunity receive communion without being scrutinized. *If *I happen to notice that they have not received communion, I quickly schedule a confession appointment for myself and ask them if they would come with me.

Our kids’ youth group meetings include confession on a regular basis.

Is it possible that your parents are not taking full advantage of confession? It seems to me that if they regularly received the sacrament of reconcilliation, you could ask to be taken to confession (assuming you can’t get yourself there) and it would not be a biggie. This could be an opportunity to share the faith with your parents.

As a sinner myself, I am proud that my Catholic children have the discernment to not receive when they shouldn’t, maybe your parents would be too.

Here’s a novel idea for you. How about talking to your father about your problem with purity. I’m sure he’ll understand. Trust your parents.
