Very interesting article. Maybe we could get Hillary Clinton to tie this with the Dubai ports scandal in some way… smuggling WMD’s in to the US somehow.

ABC did air portions of the tapes one day, but that is the last I have heard of them. They probably had to get this covered up quickly, before the public became aware, and started looking at Pres. Bush in a different light.

YES! At one time Clinton and several others did also. The fact that the weapons weren’t found means little. The Jewish World Review said a year or so ago that they were buried in the Bakkah Valley of eastern Syria.

When you remember many of Saddam’s family went to a private resort off the coast of Syria back then everything falls into place. His ties with Syria must have been pretty good, but that’s what friends are for.

I am still concerned that they have not been able to find the billion dollars the Hussein family robbed the banks of before they were management was overturned and the Americans succeeded in their efforts to oust Saddam. How many purchases could they have made with that much money

Ah I saw a report about these tapes on ABC news or something, though apparently the Pentagon spokesman said that this was most likely Saddam Hussein trying to make it seem like he had WMD in an attempt to deter an invasion by the US, in other words talking tough since it seems clear now that he never did. Iran may pull a similar tactic in hampering nuclear inspections. Frankly they really would feel much more secure if they really did have nuclear weapons as North Korea’s threaths are working well.

Saddam either had them, thought he had them, or wanted us to think he had them. Leaving us with a choice between searching him by force, or hoping nothing happened.

Maybe he had WMDs, maybe he didn’t. But we do know what he did have:
  1. A lot of cash, until he gave $25,000 of it a pop to the families of suicide bombers as incentive for terrorism.
  2. A fuselage to a 707, until he gave it to al Queda to practice hijackings with.
  3. A lot of maimed citizens, thanks to his thugs.
  4. A lot of mass graves, filled by his thugs.
If he gave money and a 707 fuselage to terrorists, do we really trust him not to give WMDs to them?

And even if he didn’t have WMDs, which we don’t know for sure, doesn’t his state sponsorship of terrorism warrant removing him? To cut off terrorism, one must cut off their sources.

He’s in jail instead of in a palace. Good riddance.

In the 1970s and 1980s there were several indications about Saddam Hussein’s development of the WMD programs (biological, chemical and nuclear). The Israeli attack on the Iraqi French-made Osirak nuclear reactor in 1981 slowed down the progress of the Iraq’s nuclear weapons program but the biological and chemical WMDs were highly developed, due to the Soviet assistance, Iraqi scientists and a sophisticated system of procurement, organized by the Iraqi Intelligence in Western Europe and in other parts of the World. The nuclear weapons program was never abandoned by the regime, and before the first Gulf War (1991) Iraq was very close to producing its own nuclear weapons. (There is some evidence that Saddam could have purchased nuclear technology from Pakistan, through Dr. Khan’s network, and that he has tried to buy nuclear weapons or components from China). The war destroyed the technical base for the production. But the highly skilled scientific and technical personnel (over 200) remained in place, dispersed. The regime managed to save their nuclear fuel, many technical means of production and the blueprints of the nuclear weaponization. The after-war international (UN) control proved ineffective. Iraq also saved an essential part of its biological and chemical warfare technology, materials and personnel. Some of the WMDs, materials, specialists from Iraq have been transferred abroad to continue research and to organize the production abroad: mainly to Sudan, Libya and Algeria but also to the neighboring Syria (with a purpose to strengthen Syrian regime’s offensive capabilities against Israel)…[much much more at source]…
