Saddened by a website

I’m only 15 and just a beginner Catholic, and I wasn’t aware of ALL the misinterpretation of Catholocism by other branches of Christianity. But now I have some idea. I found a website called jesus-is-savior.com, which devoted a lot of time to terrible misinterpretation through words, pictures, etc. Of Roman Catholocism. It shocked me. Naively, I hadn’t thought of what wrong things others might be reading about the faith. The website claimed that Catholics worship Mary, Catholics are heretics, the rosary is from the devil, etc. The whole thing has made me extremely sad. Have you seen this website personally, or had a similar experience of shock that I’ve had? How can anyone believe those things against the church?
 
The more of that I see, the more convinced I am (if that were even possible) that the Catholic Church is the only Church Jesus founded, that it is One, True, and hated by Satan and his ilk.

The accusation that Catholics (and Orthodox) worship Mary is quite common. I even had a religious studies prof teach it. Of course she also taught that she was a pre-Catholic Celtic Christian, even though most of her ideas were clearly from the reformation.

For some of those accusations the most you can do is shake your head and pray for them. Nothing will convince people of some of these untruths.

Sweetie, STAY AWAY from those websites. They are all over the place, they are almost every single one of them wrong about some very basic things, and the saddest part is, many of them are aware that they are presenting misinformation, but think that ‘lying for Jesus’ is a good thing.

They aren’t good for you. You know what your beliefs are. Hold to your faith in them and don’t let the cretins get you.

Many believers feel that way when they come up against anti-sites like that, or are subjected to persecution verbal or physical. It’s natural…

But just because someone is lying about your beliefs doesn’t mean that your beliefs are true. Remember, these same people are just as nasty to Mormons, Jehovah’s Witnesses and pretty much everybody else who isn’t them.

You need to believe in Christ because He is true, not because other people hate you for your belief in Him.

…and they need to understand that nobody ever changed religions because his own has been sufficiently insulted.

The real irony is that many people who come up against such incredibly inaccurate and offensive sites aimed AT them, and feel betrayed and insulted as a result, are quite willing to engage in exactly the same sort of thing against someone they dislike or disagree with.

Actually I’m not so sure how aware they are that they are presenting misinformation. I think that the majority actually believe this to be true. Most of their opinions are based on either what they read elsewhere and not bothering to research it before they pass it on, or witnessing something and then misinterpreting it (seeing someone pray to a saint and calling that worship).

Back when I was a happy-go-lucky protestant I had no doubt in my mind that Catholics worshiped Mary, for example.

Catholics often have some pretty weird ideas about Protestants :o - how many people in a religious group would be able to give an undistorted picture of what those in another group believe ?​

Ignorance accounts for a lot. So does how we are brought-up. So does education. So does lack of contact with those who don’t belong to our own belief. So does knowledge - reliable or not - of the bad things in the history of a group. So does unwillingness to let one’s beliefs be modified by facts. So does bias. The people with that web-site have over 450 years of “bad stuff” to influence them against Catholicism - both groups have a past that is poisoned by 450 years of enmity to another. No wonder it shows !

Given a certain POV to start with, the things you’ve mentioned are easy to believe. With a different POV to start from, they are incredible.

That’s fine…until a Catholic told you differently. Do you honestly believe that the people who write these websites have NOT been told differently?

A Catholic telling me differently isn’t what changed my opinion, after all, why would I listen to someone I think worships Mary?

What changed my opinion was doing research into it myself.

Some people wish to be deceivers. When we see this, as humans, we may want to respond back with divisivness or more untruths. But remember what the great Martin Luther King jr. said… “Darkness cannot drive out darkness; only light can do that. Hate cannot drive out hate; only love can do that.”

As Christians, Muslims, Buddhists, Taoists, we are called to love. Love those who we hate most. It is the greatest challenge. And yet it is always the greatest reward.

This person is trying to pull the wool over other people’s eyes. Either ignore it or respond as only a Christian, Muslim, Jew, Buddhist would…with love.

I would hope that if a Catholic told you that he does not worship Mary, you would believe him. I would. As to your research…where DID you go to find out the facts? Something tells me that you didn’t go to anti-Catholic websites for it. 😉

Yea i think the guy’s name is David J. Stuart. He is perhaps one of the most narrow minded indviduals I have come across. I agree with him on perhaps 5% of what he has posted. But the rest of it is unbelieable and a tad contradictory. For instance, he uses comic illustraton to demonize the Hindu god Kali yet at the same time he criticizes that same Comic company (Crick??) for not being biblical enough…or something He is what you get when you combine Cristian Fundamentalism with Alex Jones Conspiracies although i have to admit i enjoy reading his criticism of Ray Comfort.

These sad little people, hide behind a computer screen and post anger and hatred. They are not Christians in any sense of the word. A Christian either Catholic or non-Catholic would not behave that way.

I live in McMinn County, Tennessee. A 98% non-Catholic area, but although many might be a bit misinformed about what our Church teaches and does, most are kind enoung to listen and respect it. I in turn, have learn a lot about them. Since moving here I understand the difference between a Baptist and a Methodist and no longer label them as Protestants either, because they are not. They aren’t protesting anything, for they were born into these religions.

Certain sites breed hatred. This one you speak of, although I am not familiar with that one, sounds like it.😉

Jesus said “all manner of things” would be said about us, we should rejoice - we have the one of most distinctive marks of the True Church which is very patient (another mark) towards those who hate it.

This only applies if you are in error and they are on the right path.

With respect most likely you have weak faith in Him and have stronger faith in Her.

Not as we are intended to be Him first people.

For My Father nothing is impossible. your statement counters this.
