You said Jesus said it and you believe it.
What did Jesus say. I am assuming you are refering to Matt 16.
Is that what you were refering to?
apparently you need hooked on phonics or something. you keep taking my statements out of context. re read my WHOLE statement. then when you can respond without taking it out of context, i will be happy to converse with you. peace be with you.🙂

Well, I wasn’t the one who said you weren’t able to answer. However, I did ask for you to have the courtesy to open a new thread if you wanted to respond, since this is off topic.

Do you have the courtesy or not?
One of the many claims on this site is that Catholics give undue honor to Mary, statues and other objects. My discussion has been within this framework. If your unable to defend your faith then just say so.I do agree however these topics have been discused ad nauseum.

Let me share something…I live in a very a Italian catholic area…Statues in the yard and the whole works…Some even plant statues in the ground, something about a saint selling their house…There has been some pretty bizarre actions/ words that sure sound like worship that we attribute to worshiping the Lord at church…To be honest I think some have crossed the line…But we all stand before the Lord…

I am quite capable of defending my position, but this is not the place for it. I will once again ask you to have the courtesy to open a new thread if you wish to discuss this.

This thread is about the OP’s reaction to a particular website, not about *your *reaction.

I will not be goaded into taking this thread off topic. I respectfully ask that you follow the forum rules as you agreed to do when you signed up. In case you missed it, here is that rule: “Messages posted to threads should be on-topic. If you wish to discuss another topic, start a new thread.”

So if you wish to discuss what Catholics mean by Tradition and how they venerate Mary, **start a new thread about those topics. **In the meantime, I would appreciate it if you did not claim I may not be able to defend my position just because I am asking you to follow the forum rules.

The OP is a fifteen-year-old who deserves to have his thread remain on topic. I expect you as a Christian to have the courtesy and decency to allow that.

There is a major difference between venerating - honouring, and worship - complete and total supplication. Maybe some of the people there were worshiping, however the mindset of non-traditional protestantism tends not to allow for that supplication. It always moves back to the self, even the arguments against me by Hisalone showed that. He claimed Catholics don’t engage in true worship because people sometimes become bored during services.
As you said it is the attitude of the doer, and he never expressed evidence to show any different attitude then what I first stated - which is based off my own experience.

I know you’ve got a chip on your shoulder because you believe everyone is attacking your religion all the time, but that doesn’t mean you get to go around yelling at others, or take them to task in such a manner. In the future, don’t presume to scold me in such a way. Thank you.
I was simply responding to your post, Nine Two…something that is actually encouraged in this forum. If you believe, however, that I was scolding you, then perhaps that too is subjective. You might want to consider whether there is a reason you should feel scolded.

In internet edicit capital letters are considered to be quite rude and tend to be taken as anger as a matter of convention.

It is also considered to be a method of emphasis. (shrug) however, my question still stands, as does the statement. The fact is, my response was to your declaration of who is, and who is not, worshiping what, when and where. I told you that you don’t get to make that decision for those doing the worshiping…or not, as the case may be.

Only those involved in the worship know whether they are, or are not, doing so; whether what they feel is worship, veneration, dulia, hyperdulia…or total distractedness and utter boredom. Whether they do it with song, or candle, or quiet meditation; whether through song, dance or prayer; through rosary, crucifix–or hymnal.

Not your call.
Not mine.

Just the person involved, and God.

Rather, in fact, like salvation itself.

Yeah, unfortunately, it is true that there is still anti Catholicism around. It is a shock to realize that for the first time. This is what your Confirmation was preparing you for, to be strong in your faith and to be ready to defend your faith. You could make a career of it, if you wanted to do that.

Otherwise, do as some others have suggested and avoid those sites; they will only sicken you. Try to be courteous when you encounter Catholic opposition in person. And realize, as others have mentioned, that your verbiage will probably do very little to change understandings which may have been cultivated since childhood.

I would encourage you to read about the Catholic matters that are challenged by anti Catholics in order to increase your understanding of your own faith.

He’s been on several threads with the same off topic comment :rolleyes: Reported.

Hey, I’ve done that! I buried a small figure of St Joseph when we put our house up for sale a few years back. My wife and I then said a prayer to St Joseph (patron saint of home and family) to send the right buyer for the house. Now, the prayer without burying the statue would have been just as effective, but the statue thing is a harmless tradition that reinforces our belief that God is there to help with every aspect of our lives. Either way, the Protestants don’t like praying to saints, or the presence of icons and such. I don’t know what brand of Protestant tradition you adhere to, but my wife and I misspent some of our youth in Protestant Churches. You were talking about “bizarre” behavior? We saw plenty of that there I can tell you. Some of it was down right spooky.

I sorta have to chuckle as I think of a believer asking Peter or Paul “Hey do you mind if we made little statues of you to do various things with” and the response I could imagine them saying… I’m not trying to make fun of your practices but wondering how the original disciples would respond to some of the practices we all do…We were living in Fl.when I had health problems from a work accident…We both felt the Lord telling us to move back to Pa to be around are family was what God was showing us…We go straight to the Lord…Lord we feel you drawing us back to Pa, would You work it all out…An ad went in the local penny saver…The day after the paper came out the house sold for more than we paid for it and my wife was called for an interview on the rail train home and got the job which she has today… Even today we have put are mobilehome for sale and moved to rent to rid ourselves of debt for the days ahead…As for protestant bizarre, you weren’t with the snake handlers were you?I know the scripture they use but also we aren’t to temp the Lord… I also have heard of services they were "barking…I know the Lord will sort it out in the end…He knows who are hot, cold and luke warm(scary place)…May the Lord bless and draw you closer to Him in these last days…Peace to you…K

Sure you are…If I recall my old testament correctly God had the Hebrews make a graven image, a serpent and when they looked at it they were healed. Also, an old woman once was healed just by touching Jesus cloak. Did that serpent have power?, Did Jesus cloak have power? No, the power came from God. So, don’t presume to think what St Peter or St Paul may have thought about Catholic statues. Don’t assume they were “Protestant” in their thinking. Indeed, we have it on very good authority that they thought like Catholics. For example:

1st Corinthians 10:16 “The chalice of benediction, which we bless, is it not the communion of the blood of Christ? And the bread, which we break, is it not the partaking of the body of the Lord?”
…As for protestant bizarre, you weren’t with the snake handlers were you?I know the scripture they use but also we aren’t to temp the Lord… I also have heard of services they were "barking…I know the Lord will sort it out in the end…He knows who are hot, cold and luke warm(scary place)…May the Lord bless and draw you closer to Him in these last days…Peace to you…K
No, no snake handlers just your run of the mill evangelical / Pentecostals. I have had folks quote that same verse from Revelation to me when they talked about the way Catholics worship. What they are saying is that if you don’t jump up and down shake, wiggle and flop on the floor like a fish you are cold or lukewarm. They equate emotionalism with worship, and if your not babbling incoherently you can’t have the Holy Spirit. Being hot or cold or lukewarm has nothing to with how loud you shout, or how long you sing. Some see worship as reverence and devotion, quiet prayer and meditation.

I’ve just checked out the site. It’s Jack Chick and his crowd. It throws mud is everyone Catholics, Orhtodox, Evangelical protestants, NIV, George Bush, Barak Obama, Christmas, Walt Disney, the list is endless. These people are so anti-everyone else that they’ve seperated themselves from the household of faith. They need to get out more.

I believe that Jack Chick has passed away. I haven’t ssen any of his phamplets in a long time. They are actually quite entertaining to read, and the art work is as good as any comic book.

Jack Chick huh…I was given a tract in 1973 (This is your life) of his from a cute blond…She and her boyfriend took me to an evangelistic crusade where I heard more and later experienced a radical conversion experience(ask my druggy coworkers at the time). I have handed out literally hundreds of those over the years…Lord only knows who came to Him from them…Guess I’ll find out one day…His word does not return void…peace to you…Kim

No, the tract wall all scripture verses…I actually heard the same verses at the church

The “This was your life” tract actually isn’t full of libel. The only one I’ve seen that isn’t.

One reason why I just bought mostly that one…I found out the people liked the cartoon format and it was easier received…It sure oped alot of doors to talk more…

I concede to your superior knowledge of comic book art. I admit I was never a big comic book fan. You got to admit though that a lot of imagination went into Chick tracts.
