I just thought I’d post this funny little story…
So, my one friend, a rabid anti-catholic (man, when am I gonna start hanging out with my own kind, sheesh…) was unhappy with his church and so he left.
And then he did piles and piles and piles of research to see what the FIRST Christians actually did for worship. I should try to post his paper, if he’ll let me. Anyway, so he decided that he was going to start a new church (where he’s from, that’s what you when you’re not happy, you leave and start your own church) and HIS worship was going to be based on all of this.
My friend said ‘Why don’t you come to my church and bring your paper with you? I know those Catholics are heretics and all, but just come, so you can see how wrong we are.’
He agreed, mostly cuz she was being a pest.
He brought the paper and it was as if he had a script for Mass. Reading from scripture. Check. Offering prayers. Check. The Eucharist. Check. He was HORRIFIED. I mean, absolutely floored. It didn’t help that as each part of Mass was unfolding that my friend would lean over to him and say ‘This part here, that’s the part on the top of page 2’.
Mass ended, and I assure you, my protestant friend did NOT go in peace.
He instead decided to sit in his car and smoke from his ‘emergency’ pack of cigarettes.
My friend and I chatted with some other parishioners afterward and about fifteen minutes later we came out and he was still in his car, slamming on his steering wheel.
I got in the passenger seat.
‘Being wrong sucks. RCIA starts up in the fall, though. I’ll be your sponsor and I PROMISE not to rub it in how I was right all along.’ 🙂
And he said ‘It CAN’T be, it just CAN’T.’
'Oh yeah, I said, ‘and Catholics actually have apostolic succession. Bonus. And tje promise from Lord Jesus that the gates of hell shall not prevail against the Church. Double bonus. And the Holy Spirit will prevent her from teaching error. And cookies and coffee afterwards.’🙂
He’s converting, oh, he’s not happy about it, because admitting you were wrong is a really, really not fun thing to do, but he’ll come around. 😃

Great story! I wonder how many of those who perceive that Catholics put Mary, and the Popes etc ahead of Jesus have ever gone and listened to a Mass. If they had I don’t see how they could maintain that position. I have a Protestant friend but he would never consider coming to Mass.

Just curious here…I’m following in this thread and now or some reason I have to scroll from

Beautiful shrine. You say Cork?..some of my ancestors came from Cork. My wife and I would love to visit…Thanks for sharing
Luke 7:38 And stood at his feet behind him weeping, and began to wash his feet with tears, and did wipe them with the hairs of her head, and kissed his feet, and anointed them with the ointment.

Wherefore I say unto thee, Her sins, which are many, are forgiven; for she loved much: but to whom little is forgiven, the same loveth little.

I really like this picture below. I still wonder if the woman who washed the feet of Jesus with her tears and wiped them with the hairs of her head would love your shrine garden also.

I have no doubt at all that the woman who may have been Mary Magdalene would have loved any shrine to our blessed Mother. Why wouldn’t she?

Perhaps the photos being pasted into the posts has something to do with it?

Listen, the “stickman on the cross” expression was my way to describe to the reader how clear the image was in detail compared to the other two. I was trying to make a point of how demoting it appeared in resolution as well as the size difference. Maybe if you saw the picture, you too would say “its a stickman on a cross”.
No, because I find such terminology utterly insulting, even when I was a Protestant uncomfortable with the crucifix I would have considered such terminology for our Lord to be blasphemous.

Quick technical note: I’m having the same problem. Go down to the very bottom left of your window, where you will see a magnifying glass with a number next to it. If you change that number (either with the arrow or clicking on the magnifying glass) you might be able to make the easier to read. Of course, this is Internet Explorer I’m talking about (and I really don’t LIKE IE…long story why I’m stuck with it…) but I think all the other browsers have similar areas where you can change the size of the text and fit it in the window.

'course, if that’s not your problem, I can’t help. 😉

Nine Two, I went back to look for this reference to a ‘stickman’ on a cross, and read that post. What I saw there was a heartfelt testimony of someone’s path to faith in Him…and his description of the representation of Mary, the Pope and the ‘stickman type figure’ on a cross was not only accurately descriptive, but in the context of his post, appropriate as to the feelings he had regarding the Savior–that he was so convinced of his own unworthiness that he couldn’t raise his eyes to the Savior–it was partly this picture that allowed him to understand his own faith in Christ.

And I, for one, thought it was a wonderful testimony of faith and not one whit blasphemous.

You see blasphemy where none is commited, and you definitely take offense where none is offered.

I thought you had me on ignore because I was stalking you or some such nonesense. Nonetheless I shall rectify this issue.

I disagree, I think the term was intentionally used in order to insult and belittle the Catholic faith. If the intention had been otherwise another less inflammatory term would have been used. I also believe the author feigned piety and innocence in order to mask the real motive.

Man bro you sure speak your mind about people…Hope your right…You know we’ll give account for our word, deeds, thoughts attitudes ect…Right

I was just trying to explain what I saw in the picture. Maybe you should be upset with the one who made it appear that way instead.

And if you want to call it a crucifix instead of a cross, that’s OK with me. I really don’t think Jesus cares what word you choose to call the tree He was crucified on. It’s not what’s spoke with your tongue but rather what’s heard in your heart.

Jesus Christ is Lord and King!

I quite agree with the bolded statement. As it is not mine to judge the hearts of men, I’ll drop it there, however for the future, I do suggest using the term “crucifix” for crosses with the figure of Christ on them, so as not to have to worry about being accused of trolling. I completely understand you not feeling comfortable with them, but that’s not a reason to belittle them.

Hey, when my heart sings praises to the Lord or when I scream to Him in the middle of the night, I don’t use the word crucifix. I use the same words as St. Paul used. Maybe I just picked up that word when I read the Bible over and over. Since I read the King James, sometimes I also sound like an idiot when I speak to others as well as when I try to write.

I hope you are all enjoying these pictures. I’m trying to share the one’s I like.

If your excuse for not using the term “crucifix” is that you only wish to use the terms St. Paul used, then I suggest you discard the word “cross” as well. Σταυρον is the term used throughout the New Testament. “cross” belongs to some weird language that appeared much later.

Well, I’ll try for you, but I don’t speak “Σταυρον”. I wouldn’t know what to say if I saw it.
I speak as I hear, since I read the Bible, I hear “cross” quite often.

No, Nine Two. I said that if you continued to behave as you have, (including taking your quarrel with me into private chat) that I wouldn’t be there to listen. I was hoping that a word to the wise would be sufficient, and that you would not continue.
