An old man posted on facebook a quote of saint Augustine towards women.
“Women should not be enlightened or educated in any way. They should, in fact, be segregated as they are the cause of hideous and involuntary erections in holy men.”
He uses this to undermine Christianity. I think he is an agnostic, though not admitted. He believes all religions are blind trying to describe God in their own way. But he still believe in God.
Anyway, how should i react on the quote? How can we defend our faith if indeed some of the fathers/doctors of the church did something like this in their apostolic life? Thank you in advance.
I came from an augustinian school that’s why it somehow saddens me.
