“Nowadays secular society has its own equivalents of forcing reluctant Christians to worship the gods and the Emperor: diversity training sessions, anger management classes, re-education camps—and baking cakes. So far these procedures have not been enforced, as Pliny’s were, by the threat of the death penalty (“supplicium minatus”). But who knows what the future holds?”

Yes, Nero is the ideal patron for the present age of gay marriage.

I have hypothesized how, as Nero is the beast in Revelation referred to by 666, if support of same-sex marriage, gay rights, rainbow flag, etc is the contemporary mark of the beast? It is incredibly divisive and is contributing in a large way to the current apostasy.

I totally agree.

An interesting note: It says in Revelation 13 that without the Mark of the Beast, you will not be able to buy or sell…

…now look at what happens to cake shops, bakeries, and businesses who refuse to hail gay rights. hey get SHUT down. No buying or selling for them.

All who wear the Mark of the Beast will be thrown into fire…well look at Sodom and Gomorrah. Nuff said.

If Revelation applies to all generations…this is how it applies to this one.

I believe that the gay marriage proponents are so emboldened now that they would relish the idea of Emperor Nero as their patron.

Articles like this convince me more and more that certain people in the Church just LOVE finding (making up) an enemy to point their fingers at.

Nero. Patron of Gay Marriage. Give me a break.

Gay folks can marry now. Get over it.

When they start arresting people of faith for objecting to the gay agenda, which is being forced down their throats, you and others who have blinders on will see we were right to be so concerned. We aren’t immune from persecution merely because we live in the 21st century. I’m sure other people in other centuries told themselves the same thing–such as Europe while the Nazis took over Germany. It can happen if we don’t stand up against being forced to accept that which goes against our most basic teachings regarding the family and human relations. We won’t “get over it” for we know that we will be forced to violate our consciences by our government in the name of equality–which is not equality but coersion.

Who will being doing the arresting? The persecuting? Maybe they are anti-Christs – not people who merely support gay marriage or are gay.

Just because the Faith isn’t popular anymore does not mean it is being persecuted.

How pathetic to compare us in the US being persecuted with those Christians in the early Roman Empire.

Oh how I wish you are right about that. I don’t relish being persecuted, perhaps going to jail or worse. Many people live in a nice bubble of denial that such things can’t happen–it’s what makes persecution possible:

When the Nazis came for the communists,
I remained silent;
I was not a communist.

When they locked up the social democrats,
I remained silent;
I was not a social democrat.

When they came for the trade unionists,
I did not speak out;
I was not a trade unionist.

When they came for the Jews,
I remained silent;
I wasn’t a Jew.

When they came for me,
there was no one left to speak out.

Friedrich Gustav Emil Martin Niemöller, Protestant pastor and social activist during the years leading up to WWII and Nazi occupation.

Sigh.

So tell all that to the Christian businesses being SHUT DOWN. Tell them there is no persecution.

Tell that to journalists being fined for “hate speech”. Tell that to churches being sued.

Geez, your still in denial.

Odd that your religion says “Catholic tendency”…hah…I think “Uncatholic tendency”.

As for whether gays can marry, what IS marriage? If it is just two people living together for financial benefits(wheres the “love” in that?) then sure they can. If it is a sacrament, well, they cant.

Once again, sometimes bad things may happen to people who believe traditional notions of marriage. But it unjust to make it seem as if it is gay persons’ fault or even those who wish gay people have the right to marry.

I don’t think you understand what’s happening. It’s not gay people who will do these things–it’s those who will use their “cause” to do them. The family has been broken down and is in grave danger of being destroyed, and this is just another way to do it. It has nothing to do with equal rights. It’s a power grab. Wake up and smell the coffee.

And how many businesses are being shut down? And why?
Tell that to journalists being fined for “hate speech”. Tell that to churches being sued.
So you wish to compare this to the persecution endured by the Early Church in Rome? By those who had their heads chopped off, who were fed to animals, and who were forced underground?
Geez, your still in denial.
Or maybe some people on here are just paranoid and holding up “The End is Near” signs.
Odd that your religion says “Catholic tendency”…hah…I think “Uncatholic tendency”.
Tendency means I am bent towards a certain way. I think Catholic in much of my Christian understanding. Not all. This is one of the issues I am not very traditionally-Catholic in.

Ask Abraham. Or David. Or Jacob. Or Paul. They may as well all give different answers.

Marriage has never been defined only in Catholic terms.

So the family will be destroyed because…

Two males or two females can marry?

Persons who otherwise would not enter into a “traditional” marriage in the first place?

Wooowww…

Did I really just read that?

Huh…maybe I ought to be more paranoid than I am now…

So you’re going to blame an individual’s business for shutting down or for a person being sued on all gay people? Or gay people want gay persons to have the right to marry?

I have spoken to this issue much.

I think it is obvious that marriage has been predominately male-female and even exclusively so for most cultures in the past because most people are… heterosexual. And natural families develop from male-female interaction, as sex forms babies.
