Starting next year, New York’s Mohawk Valley can boast of being the home of two of the Roman Catholic Church’s newest saints.

Is there more information regarding this topic? I’d be quite interested…

Blessings,
What would you like to know?

I live in the Mohawk Valley-have been all my life. I am SOOOO excited that Mother Marianne Cope, who lived her early years in my hometown of Utica, is going to be named a Saint! Her parish still exists, and it has shrines to her both outside on the grounds and inside the church, as well as a Perpetual Adoration chapel.

When Mother Marianne’s relics returned to the mainland from Hawaii in early 2005, I visited them in her parish church after a huge homecoming Mass. As I placed my hands on the casket, I simply whispered two words: ‘WELCOME HOME!’ I’ve also been to the museum set up at the Franciscan Sisters’ mother house in Syracuse. The relics are in the main chapel, enclosed in a beautiful wooden reliquary. My visit to the museum was in the fall of 2005.

I’m only an hour or so away from Kateri Tekakwitha’s shrines in Auriesville (where she was born) and Fonda (where she was baptized)! Her canonization is going to be a huge boost to both places! They have been waiting soooo long for the glorious news that she will be a Saint, too! She was declared Venerable 'way back in 1943, and beatified in 1980.

If you don’t want to ask anything here publicly, you can always PM me.

Wonderful recognition of both holy women. Very good news.
Kateri has been a favorite of mine since the 1950s. So glad to know her!
