Today is also "St. John Baptiste Marie Vianney Sunday.

Collect (Opening Prayer):
O God, who in the glorious Transfiguration
of your Only Begotten Son
confirmed the mysteries of faith by the witness of the Fathers
and wonderfully prefigured our full adoption to sonship,

that, listening to the voice of your beloved Son,
we may merit to become co-heirs with him.
Who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever."

Sharing these excerpts from the Euchalette’s reflection for today, Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord, August 6, 2017, p.4:

THE TRANSFIGURATION AS REVELATION AND ENCOURAGEMENT

"The transfiguration of Jesus in front of his disciples on Mount Tabor revealed to them who he really was – God’s Son and the promised Messiah. Such a wonderful reality had remained hidden for so many years under a layer of “ordinariness” that had brought everybody to conclude that Jesus was just a “good man” who eventually had become a fascinating storyteller and a faith healer…

Jesus’ transfiguration tells us that in each of us, too, there is a “core” of divinity and greatness that is waiting to be revealed. That “core of divinity” was implanted in us at our baptism when we became God’s adopted children. It has to be brought to the light of day and shine in all its splendor as we endeavor to remove from ourselves the layers of selfishness, materialism, sensuality, pride, and aggressiveness that our own sins and the sins of others has heaped on us.

As we undergo this “transformation,” we will become ever more similar to our inspiring pattern, Jesus our Savior."
