It didn’t look like this question had been asked recently so I figured I’d open a topic on it. Who is your favorite saint, and why? I have a few; St. Michael, St. Mary Magdalene, but my top favorite is Saint John Bosco for his gentleness, compassion, and love for the young. I have had the privilege of working with troubled kids and my hope is to return to that work eventually, illuminated by the spirit of this wonderful saint.

The Saints that I feel especially drawn to are St John (the apostle), St Elizabeth (Mary’s cousin), St Teresa of Calcutta, and Pope St John Paul II. It’s too hard to pick a favourite.

We do have this question periodically and I have too many saints I love to properly list them all. My top go-to saints after Mother Mary are:

St. Joseph (the most important saint after Mary, IMHO)
St. Therese and St. Jude (my parents’ respective patron saints)
St. Monica and St. Margaret Mary (my own patron saints)
St. Anthony (always a favorite in our house, my late husband also liked him)
St. Patrick (I’m over 50 percent Irish)
St. Francis of Assisi and St. Claire of Assisi (Also favorites in our house and I have a particular intention I pray to them about)
St. Francis de Paola, St. Gertrude of Nivelles, and St. Philip Neri (patrons of animals, especially cats)
St. Jose Sanchez del Rio (he picked me)
St. Padre Pio (influenced me to become more intense in my practice)
Sts. Francisco and Jacinta Marto (influenced my prayer practices)
St. Francis de Sales (He has helped me with a pretty big personal intention in the past)

Also a number of people on the path to sainthood who I like to pray to and pray for their cause, including
Blessed Miguel Pro
Blessed Jerzy Popieluszcko
Blessed Solanus Casey
Venerable Fulton Sheen
Venerable Patrick Peyton
Servant of God Rhoda Wise
Servant of God Helena Pelczar
Servant of God Lucia dos Santos
Mother Angelica (doesn’t have a cause yet but I’m certain she will get one as soon as she has been dead for 5 years)

I have many more on both the favorite saint list and the favorite saints-to-be list but these are the biggest ones.

There are quite a few saints that I have formed a friendship with, but these saints would be at the top of my list.
  1. The Blessed Mother
  2. St. Joseph - I credit him for the gift of my husband.
  3. St. Anne - the patron my parents gave me
  4. St. Agnes - the patron I choose for myself
  5. St. Maria Goretti and 6) St. Dymphna - both are saints I felt very close to in my teenage years; still consider them to be old friends.

Mary, St. Joesph, St. Maximilian Kolbe, St. Padre Pio, Pope St. John Paul II, St. Therese of Lisieux!

As others have said, I hope and pray Mother Angelica may become a canonized saint (God willing.)

Saint Bernadette Soubirous.

It all began at the grotto, before I was even Christian, when I crossed myself with the water. In the decades that followed, the patron Saint of bodily illness (Who knew?) has sustained me through three cancers and a stem cell transplant. I tear up when I see her photo.

I’m following the cause of Dorothy Day. Currently reading her autobiography The Long Lonliness.

I’m also following the causes of Fulton Sheen and Fr Demetrius Gallitzen (Apostle of the Alleghenies).

Tis_Bearself picked most of my top choices (a wonderful list!), and I would add St Theresa of Avila. Then there is St John of the Cross, whose writings are probably my favourites, at least at this stage in the journey.

Fun topic!

Bl. Fulton Sheen or is it Ven.? I can’t keep up.
He’s still a Venerable. It’s rumored there’s a miracle in the can for him as soon as the court proceedings over who owns his body come to a close, so he should be moved up to Blessed shortly thereafter, but the cause can’t go forward till the court case ends for good.

St Joseph
St Jude
St René Goupil
(Venerable) Élisabeth Bruyère

We have several things in common. I feel close to her ,and when I pray to her at night and the Novena I feel she is right beside me…
She found me. I was praying for a Saint, and for a week I would honestly lookup random things and her photo was the first one on there. And this is true. I looked up a recipe now mind you the cookies and comp was cleaned and when I typed in a recipe name she popped up, I smiled started crying and told her I truly got the hint. Now I talk to her every day🥀

St. Alphonsus Liguori is probably my favorite. His writings can be very strict but I like them because it helps keep me from being too tepid. I also somewhat recently learned about St. Gemma Galgani and, from her story, of St. Gabriel of Our Lady of Sorrows. I find both of them to be an inspiration so I often pray to them as well.

(In no particular order)

St. Josephine Bakhita

St. Camillus de Lellis

St. Faustina

St. Oscar Romero

St. Kateri Tekakwitha
