Salamanders are cool

Any of y’all know about the southern red backed salamander?
 
We don’t have a lot of salamanders around here (Massachusetts), but I did once see a Spotted Salamander in New Hampshire. It was the biggest salamander I’ve ever seen, maybe 7 or 8 inches long from nose to tail. (The others were at most a few inches long.)

I rarely see them, but that is South Carolina’s state amphibian (okay, I’ve probably never seen them in the wild)
 
Y’all should read about Tremblay’s Salamanders, nature’s weirdos.
 
I believe I saw one on the UC Berkeley campus when I was studying there in the 1980s. That’s the only one I’ve ever seen.

At first I thought it was a skink (a reptile), but skinks move pretty fast and this salamander was really slow. Looking more closely, I recognized it as a salamander.
