I think some of these preachers think the title bishop has a nice ring to it so they run down to the print shop and get some cards and stationary printed up. I know one guy who says all the word bishop means is elder, so I am the elder senior minister in my salvation shop who signed the lease so therefore I am a bishop.
You and Bill are hung up on this title thing. Why do you bother with it when it has nothing to do with the thread.
Just because they are not Catholic doesn’t mean they have no authority or are not able to be called a Bishop, Reverend, Pastor. Minister remember we are not of your religion and we have our own ways of doing things. Just because they are not your way don’t mean they are not right. Now I know you will disagree with It, but I really don’t care if you agree with it or not. This is a Non-Catholic site and we have every right to back our beliefs the same way you do. If you don’t like it then go to a Catholic site and stay off the Non-Catholic site because all you, meaning Catholics, on this site do is nothing but show hate for others and their religious beliefs. I think that is the only reason you are on the Non-Catholic site. And this stuff about we are only backing our religion and trying to make you see the truth, that we are the one and only true religion founded by Jesus, we have been around for 2000 years so that makes us right and the other religions are not founded by Jesus. Well Jesus founded Christianity, not the Catholic church. I am a Christian that Jesus founded.and that means everything to me. I believe that you really don’t know what its means to be a real Christian. It means to love your neighbor, to be kind to others, to treat others like you want to be treated. Instead all I hear is your religion is nothing, you are not a valid minsiter. your baptism is not valid, nothing in others religion is valid to you, well hear’s news sweep pea they are to us and to God. Like it or not its, like you say, the truth. You can say that we shouldn’t help the Salvation Army because they are not of the Catholic faith and we shouldn’t support a invalid religion. Boy that sounds real Christian like. How can a Catholic High School help a non-Catholic orginization. I’ll tell you how they know what it means to be a real Christian, to help their neighbor who is in need, to do good for others dispite the religious differences. Unlike some of you who are so caught up it this only Catholic thing that you miss the meaning of what it means to help others and what it means to be a real Christian. Now that I have said this. God bless and have a good nignt/day.

I am only going to address one portion of your post. I will let the other posters address the other things you rambled on about.

That one thing is:
This is a Non-Catholic site and we have every right to back our beliefs the same way you do. If you don’t like it then go to a Catholic site and stay off the Non-Catholic site
You realize of course that this is a Catholic site right? It is Catholic Answers Forums. You just happen to be participating in a sub forum called “non-Catholic Religions”. Which if you read the forum description it says that it is for comparing and contrasting religions.

You might want to rethink telling Catholics to leave their own website.

But good try.

they are hypocrites (at least in my city they are) in that in running a shealter for the homeless they charge them money (12.00-19:00$ a night). I refuse to support them since the time when I was homeless a few years ago and refused to help me becuse I had no money.
Huh? Are you sure you’re not confusing the SA with the Red Cross?

The Catholic Church has always lauded the SA for its works of mercy. They are a classic example of James’ admonition to show one’s faith by one’s works.

That there are some theological differences between the RCC and the SA is not in dispute by either body.

Rev, you said what you wanted to say. Now you got that out of your chest let me tell you, while you did touch on some universal value like helping our neighbors, and while I understand that you are addressing the two posters concerned, I would like to correct your other generalization.

As much as you are talking from your Protestant view point, so are Catholics here talking from theirs. Their belief tells them that their Church is the one that Jesus founded; not your church. Thus to them their orders are valid; not yours. Maybe some Catholics hate Protestants, I cannot really tell, but I can tell you, not all Catholics despise Protestants here. Our doctrines differ respectively and we disagree but we don’t hate. I am not reprimanding you; I am trying to affirm you. Please take it with a little bit of salt about the snickering about your title – it merely that they do not believe you have valid order from Catholic view point. You would do the same to us too in where you disagree with us.

Basically we would support any organizations in their work of charity regardless of their religious affiliations. I note some Catholics do not support the SA and none of their reason is because it is not Catholic. Some don’t support it because there are Catholic equivalents and it is about priority, while others don’t because SA supports an issue that Catholics do not agree with.

God bless.

Yes I know where I’m at.
Now if you read Important forum infomation under the Non-Catholic part it says,
“Explore the history and beliefs of Non-Catholic and Non-Christian faiths, dialogue and adherents.”
In the Non-Catholic fourm it says, “comparing and contrasting beliefs.”
Now I have a right under the rules to protect my religious beliefs just like you do.
I did not mean to leave the website, I meant if you can’t have a dialogue without slaming and putting down Non-Catholics because of what they believe then go to one that you believe.
I don’t see anywhere where it says its alright to slam, put down, belittle, make fun of, calling names, personal attacks and so on in the rules.
Dialogue: A conversation between 2 or more persons. An exchange of ideas and opinions.
Adherent: One that adhers. A follower in or advocate of something. {as and idea or church}
Contrast: To show noticeable differences. to compare especially so as to show differences.

Now I believe that as Christians we can have dialogue without the rudeness on both sides.
Remember we are of different religions and have different beliefs so it should be no suprise that we differ. But it can be done tastefully and with respect for eachothers beliefs.

I understand what you are saying but put the shoe on the other foot. What if we snickered about calling a priest Father or making fun of the Pope. Would you take it with a grain of salt? No you wouldn’t. So why are we different.
As far as the church goes, we believe that our church is valid, or titles are valid, our baptisms are valid. We believe it the same as you believe yours. Its obvious we won’t agree on these matters but we can disagree with eachother without the name calling, and show some reaspect for others views. Now I as well as others have been called everything but human on some of these sites. We have been called ignorant, can’t have a intelectual discussion just because we disagree with their religious views.

Here is part of the OP post, I wonder how much service Catholics should provide to or on their behalf. As I understand the SA is classified as a church of Evangelical nature the was founded by a Methodist Minister.
This sounds like its because its a non-Catholic reason to me. Not on all but in some.

Aw, Rev, please look at the positive side. Name calling happens both ways. For the record I have been called foolish. Other had called me to fill my brain, whatever that means. Some Protestants here said that Catholics do not know their History and the Bible. Yes, it can get quite ridiculous sometimes, and yet there are many posters here, Catholics and Protestants alike who are quite objective in their discussion and out of their lips there is wealth of wisdom. Maybe we should look up into these, the upbuilding ones.

My position on titles is that I would respect whatever the person wants to be addressed as. I agree with you that we should not ridicule.

As for the matter of True Church, Baptism and Orders, the debate on these are ongoing. We can only hope that opposing participants got their words and action under controlled, which can be quite difficult sometimes especially if the discussion get heated a bit.

Maybe posters should pray first before they open this Forum website. 

As a matter of reflection, sometimes how others react to us also to some extent depends on how we present our discussion and our demeanor. Normally kindness begets kindness.

God bless.

Yes I do agree with you on what you said. The name calling is both ways and there should be respect on both sides. We know we don’t see eye to eye on some issues but that is no reason to treat others, and I mean on both sides, with less then Christian ways. I know I have been guilty of it but that was after I was treated badly and when treated good like you are I respond in a positive way.

I give to the Salvation Army in my community as they really go all out to help the needy.

I think it does. Being a “Bishop” is like a title. Why would you call someone a “doctor”, unless they had gone through the training for it?

I agree that respect should be given to our non Catholic guests, just as they should respect the Catholic faith. That wasn’t what I was addressing.

You had mentioned in your post that this was a non catholic “site”, when in fact it isn’t. It is part of a Catholic 'site". I was merely pointing that out.

Yes this is a Catholic site and the non-Catholic is part if it. What I was trying to say, but did not put it right, was if you can’t discuss in a Christian manner then stay off this site and go to one where you won’t act in such a manner. I still don’t know if I’m explaining it right but I hope you understand what I meant.

You have just hit the nail on the head.

When you didn’t “put it right”, it gave one particular impression. One that you didn’t intend. It happens to all of us.

Frustration and emotions can take over ones typing abilities sometimes, and it is difficult to “hear the tone” in a persons post. Something that is posted with all christian charity can be read by another individual as rude, etc.

With that being said, telling someone the truth, can be harsh and unpleasant sometimes, but still needs to be done. Keeping in mind of course that it is done in a spirit of christian charity.

It is best not to get too wound up about many things that are said on forums, it doesn’t do anything good for your blood pressure.

You are correct, I did let frustration get the best of me. I try to do it in a christian like manner but we are all human, with falts. You right about blood pressure, mine is high enough without getting frustrated.

I always remember when i was 8-10 yrs of age they had a place for the homeless here in Houston and they had a gym. I and some of my friends use to go and play there and were always welcome. We were fed as well for those that wanted it. They had all kinds of activities for us kids as well and instead of being on the street we went there. I always donate to them , too bad they don’t allow them to ring the bell , i wasn’t aware of that.

They are still ringing the bells in our area.

I think it might be a regional thing. I remember that battle in the news a few years ago, but don’t remember exactly how it all played out.

they are hypocrites (at least in my city they are) in that in running a shealter for the homeless they charge them money (12.00-19:00$ a night). I refuse to support them since the time when I was homeless a few years ago and refused to help me becuse I had no money.
There is a reason for this its to make sure the homeless work for their upkeep and come on its cheaper than a motel in my state, the one in our city offers two meals with the rent for the room and job and other assistance. All for $12 or so a day. Must I note the YMCA has beds for rent to and offers far less for people in my city.

As for the Salvation Army one can’t argue for the money they bring in they stretch that alot to help others I say that is very Christian.

I’m surprised by many of the responses and somewhat surprised at the aparrent decisions of some Catholic high schools.

There really isn’t much of an argument here: we as Catholics are not to contribute money to a Church not in communion with the one true Church.

Period.

Why this is so is answered in many other threads.

It doesn’t really matter if one sect or another does some or a lot of good. The Church has more charitable organizations for more causes in more places than ANY other organization, secular or religious.

Many of our charities are really suffering right now.

Our **parishes **are collecting significantly under budget because of the bad economy. It is simply misplaced sympathy to contribute money to the Salvation Army, which is a Protestant sect, while our local churches are struggling.

Furthermore, I think that it would do us much good, if we want to directly help those most in need, to start working at it **ourselves **rather than feel like we are helping by clinking change in a bucket (yes, homeless feeding is a ministry in which I have recently become involved. Actually preparing and serving people who need help can only be described as a grace filled experience).

When we give money to our parish, we can see the budget whenever we want. I have no idea how the Salvation Army dispurses its funds; I do know it has many dedicated volunteers and has crafted a very particular brand image (and seems to spend a lot of money on this).

Also, I find it a little unfair that if we, as Catholics, were to ring bells to collect for the diocese, Crisis Pregnancy, or some other Catholic charity, almost every store would say no.

Again, the above two paragraphs are not really germane to the topic because we are not to contribute to other religions and sects not in communion with Christ’s Church.

I’m Catholic, and I think the Catholic Church is “closest” to the truth.
I’m a former Protestant too. I don’t want to be ‘that guy’ who knit picks, but I do want to expand upon this comment.

I know what you are meaning to say, but the way this is phrased can be interpreted in harmful ways. The Church is the fullness of the faith and possesses no defects in morals and dogma.

This cannot be said about any other religion or sect.

Of course, there will be Catholics who do not follow the faith and non-Catholics who do live according to the natural law who for whatever particular reason were unable to join the Church.

That the Catholic Church is the true Church, the only Church, was the beginning point for my conversion. I just get concerned when we think we need to look outside our Church to other groups, religious or secular, for truth. Because we don’t and if we try we will only get stuck in trouble.

This must be one of those Catholic rules for lay people only. The bishops collect millions in the Campaign for Human Development and give it to non-Catholic groups all the time, whose policies are not even close to being as worthy as the SA. In fact many of them are working in direct opposition to anything that could be called Christian. God bless our bishops.
