Salvation in Protestantism

I have stumbled across many catholics that believe there is no salvation outside the catholic church. I tell these people that the catechism says otherwise but they reply by saying the catechism is not infallible. Can anyone quote an early church father or a pope saying that has a more straight forward way of explaining that salvation is indeed outside of the church and protestants can be saved.

Does the baptism of desire provide the grace of baptism/spiritual rebirth/ being born again?

It is mind boggling, when loving and serving God in a Protestant faith, is not considered worthy of salvation. Protestant missionary’s have been martyred serving Jesus w their families. They build hospitals and schools. Our Bibles are the same x for our appochrophyl books. Books which were read by Jesus in the Temple.
Our worship formats are different but our Praise the same.
Ignorance of Gods children is possible. Catholics and Protestants will go up and down on elevators on the last call. It is the truth in our hearts, that will go before the judgement seat.

Catholic is never in scripture. Catholic means Universal which incorporates you. POPE JOHN PAUL II, embraces all faiths looking for a common denominator. Billy Graham, he’s home!

Idk this issue is pretty complicated, only because a friend of mine sent me a video. It’s pretty long but it is supposedly “the best argument against baptism of desire” at least watch the last part and tell me what you think.

This states in the last verses if you have good in your heart and perform good in your life, you have been lead by the Holy Spirit and are received by God. No titles. Heart love and dedication. I hope this is helpful.

Our friend will then argue by saying
  1. Baptism of Desire is Heretical, the Form, Minister and Matter of a Sacrament is required to be conferred upon a person
  2. Correct, God is not bound by His Sacraments. We are. We are bound to follow them, lest we die and earn the wages of our sins. As defined by the Council of Trent:
 
Saint Thomas Aquinas supposedly denies Baptism of desire:

St. Thomas Aquinas, Summa Theologiae, Pt. III, Q. 68, A. 2, Reply to Obj. 2: “If therefore a catechumen has the desire for baptism… then such a one departing [or dying] does not immediately attain eternal life but will suffer punishment for past sins. Nevertheless he himself will be saved in this way as though through fire, as stated in 1 Cor. III.”
 
Pope Eugene IV, Council of Florence, “Cantate Domino,” 1441, ex cathedra: “The Holy Roman Church firmly believes, professes and preaches that all those who are outside the Catholic Church, not only pagans but also Jews or heretics and schismatics, cannot share in eternal life and will go into the everlasting fire which was prepared for the devil and his angels, unless they are joined to the Church before the end of their lives; that the unity of this ecclesiastical body is of such importance that only for those who abide in it do the Church’s sacraments contribute to salvation and do fasts, almsgiving and other works of piety and practices of the Christian militia produce eternal rewards; and that nobody can be saved, no matter how much he has given away in alms and even if he has shed blood in the name of Christ, unless he has persevered in the bosom and unity of the Catholic Church.”

What is pope Eugene IV trying to say in this quote?

I think God sees our hearts. Not one religion wins a ticket to heaven. As in OT, the High Priest had to prepare to enter the HOLY OF HOLIES. If his heart wasn’t pure after all traditional practices were followed, he was struck dead before the Ark of the Covenent. The name HIGH PRIEST didn’t save him. It’s our love affair w God and a pure life that gets us our ticket up. IF YOU LOVE ME YOU WILL FOLLOW MY COMMANDMENTS.

Even your analogy includes a preparation to enter what is a prefigurement of Heaven. You must prepare to even attempt entrance. If you prepare but do not have a pure Heart, then you do not enter alive. If you do not prepare, you have no chance at entering. See? We, as Christians, must have a ‘pure heart’ (the Catholic Faith/dying in a state of grace) and we also must prepare (seeking the remission of Sins through Reconciliation, Extreme Unction [basically Anointing of the Sick for people on their death bed], Baptism, Confirmation and Communion).

We are bound by the Sacraments, it is the only way known to us by which we receive God’s Grace. That is why it is necessary to be a practicing and faithful Catholic to be saved. It is the only faith that is pure before the eyes of God, that will not leave us struck dead in our sins.

Pls correct anything wrong with my rebuttal, I’m trying to figure out where Catholicism and baptism of desire are compatible.

I didn’t take your comment to be a rebuttal. I had been speaking of the High Priest and requirements to enter Holy of HOLIES. I feel we are saying the same thing. You fine tuned it w Catholic thinking. It is the same. A pure heart and a repentant, forgiven soul. Living in our Sacramrnts to achieve Holiness.
BAPTISM OF DESIRE. You are planning to be baptized but God called you home before the act was completed.
Google MYSTICAL BAPTISM. Catholic theologian. It’s like Romans 2. God wants us home, again. He can be merciful. I’m not sure I agree w the entire premise. I hope it’s true. Romans 2, sort of, backs his article up.

St. Augustine retracted his statement about Baptism of Desire, leaving the argument that it has been taught by the Church’s Ordinary Magisterium as false, considering he was the only one to ever assert such.
 
it has been taught by the Solemn Magisterium that there is 1. No Salvation without the Catholic Faith 2. No Salvation without Baptism 3. Schismatics, Heretics, Jews, Pagans, Atheists, etc are all outside of the Church and finally 4. That there is absolutely no Salvation outside the Catholic Church, and that one must be within the Catholic Church to receive Salvation.

This is all based on my understanding. Baptism of desire (if it is real) makes more since so I want someone to prove me wrong.

A mere reading of the catechism and the documents of the last council put the is due to rest firmly. One does not have to be institutionally Catholic to attain salvation.
