"Let me uses Jesus Christ own words. He said this to his apostles. “He who hears you, hears me, he who rejects you rejects me. He who rejects me rejects the one who sent me.”

The Church declare Mary to be a virgin before and after the birth of Jesus Christ. When the Church speaks, Jesus speaks also. Therefore rejecting this true is rejecting what he has taught. Jesus was given authority from the Father, His teaching is not his own, but from God, the Father.

End of Discussion. You cannot separate the teachings of the Church with that of Jesus Christ. Hence the Church is the Mystical Body of Christ. He is the Head. So if a Christian deny this truth that Mary is not a virgin, then he is denying the very words of Jesus Christ himself."*

Is this true? If you dont believe in the perpetual virginity, your faith in Jesus and your good works are for nothing? If you dont believe in the perpetual virginity, you cannot be saved? This means that every non-catholic christians (who dont believe the idea) are false christians?

My question to you is why do have a problem with the idea of Mary’s perpetual virginity? If as a believer in Christ, you believe in the virgin birth, and that Mary was set above all other women, why is difficult to believe in her perpetual virgin? Would not the same graces from God that selected her to be the mother of our savior continue throughout her life?
When man’s values are placed on the life of Mary and not God’s, it’s easy to understand why you have problems with this doctrine.

Peace

^ As a NON-christian I dont think the perpetual virginity is realistic, unless Joseph was gay. If you are a catholic, please answer the question. Thanks. 🙂

AT, since Christ speaks through the Church and the Church has revealed Truth X, to reject Truth X is to reject Christ.

The way you worded your poll shows a misunderstanding. It is not the essence of belief in Perpetual Virginity that brings salvation, it is following Christ.

And one disclaimer, discussed ad nauseum in other threads, salvation of course is vincible or invincible.

Of course. What I meant was: in addition to following Christ, must one also believe that Mary never had sex in order to be saved?

So is it a yes?

To be a true christian one must believe what the Catholic church is teaching about Mary, else the person is rejecting Jesus?

You have answered your own question. You are appling man’s standards, i.e. your own to the way Mary and Joseph would lead thier lives and not God’s. The priest and sisters who have lived celebate lives over the centuries, certainly have shown that choice can be freely made. Certainly both Mary and Joseph would have recieved the grace they needed to do the same.

Belief is an invitation. You have recieved that invitation and has choosen not to accept. I always find it courious of why those who have not accepted the invitation to follow Christ and his teachings, find it nesseccary to question those who have.🤷

I am catholic and I’m answering your question. It will be hard to believe for you but some people are stronger that their sexual desires. We decide if we want to have sex or not because we are not animals:) (probably you behave like an animal if you asked such a question). You look at yourself and you think that all peolpe are like you. Luckily you are wrong. I feel sorry for you. That’s the whole answer.

angelusm, that wasnt the question. please see my reply to marco. so is it a yes?

Yes, salvation does require believing it, as well as every other truth revealed by God. Refusing to believe a truth revealed by God is a grave sin against faith. “God, I know better than you on this issue.” That’s the attitude that leads to eternal damnation.

We trust God that these truths are for our good, even if we can’t understand how at the moment–that is what faith is all about 👍

Thanks Genesis. 🙂

Anyone else? Right now catholics are 50/50 on the issue.

My belief in salvation does not hing on your question. The spirt brings us to salvation in many ways. I belief that the Catholic way is the best way, but since I am not yet dead, I do not know if I am saved or not. I trust in the teachings of my faith.
I notice that you have a little comment “God gave us reason and not religion” . Having studied both, God has given us both, and they work in conjuction for us to come to God.
Peace,
FAB

Fab, are you saying that believing that Mary lost her virginity does not disqualify a christian from salvation?

Thanks Genesis. 🙂

I wonder if some people are thinking in terms of “absolute” necessity. It is possible for someone to be saved without believing it, just as it is possible for someone to be saved who has committed other objectively grave sins that exclude from salvation. There can always be mitigating factors that lessen or completely excuse culpability in any requirement for salvation that carries with it a necessity of precept.

AgnosTheist, You are attempting to set a trap that I’m not going for. Since you acknowleged that you a NON Christian, I will offer a prayer for your salvation, since I do believe salvation comes through Christ.
The invitation is for the taking.

Peace,FAB

I would agree, there is a substantial difference between being Ignorant of Mary’s Perpetual Virginity, and having knowledge of the Church’s teaching on the matter and REJECTING it.

God does not hold one responsible for what one was never made aware of, but He does hold people responsible for rejecting truth when they have learned of it.

So the poll is misleading in that respect.

I would rather say, Salvation is not possible for those who obstinately reject the Perpetual Virginity of Mary.

I suppose you have a ‘yes’ answer to this question:

This means that every non-catholic christians (who dont believe the idea) are false christians?

This is true because for one this is part of Divine Revelation. Second, according to the writings of the ECF as well as Scripture it was properly understood that Mary always remain a virgin. The Eastern Orthodox believe in it and so do Catholics. The Protestants are the minority if they insist that Mary didn’t remain a virgin.

Second,** you quoted my words without my permission**. Next time please private message me to use my words. Do this out of charity.

I also like to make it clear that any Non-Catholic Christians who does not believe in this truth cannot be denied the title Christian. His belief in Jesus Christ as the Promised One of God and the Messiah is truth enough.

The question whether someone is saved if he denies that Mary was ever a virgin is up to God himself. For God can read the hearts and minds of us all. I think Non-Catholic Christians out of ignorance have been completely been misinformed concerning this old belief that Mary remain a virgin all her life.

Peace in Christ be with you all.

Sincerely Yours,

Didn’t I already answer this for you? 🙂 They are just not “complete”. Tell me you are not just fishing for someone who doesn’t understand Catholicism to reinforce your innacurate understanding of Church teaching. 😃
