I once (maybe 2 years ago) had to see two people of the same sex get ‘married’ in a MCC church. Well, I am in Texas and Texas does not recognize same sex marriage so I have that much going for me so far.
These two people are church goers weekly. How do they reconcile what Jesus said to what they try to do? I cannot ask them because of it is a family situation. I did tell my wife that if they speak negativity about my faith, I will defend it.

I should know better than to get into this, but I have to ask… What exactly is it that Jesus said about their marriage? I don’t recall our Lord speaking about homosexuality at all.

Thanks, and God bless

Huh?

Why you ask me?

I’m pretty sure I don’t know these people and so can’t possibly know how they personally justify it.

However, I can SPECULATE or GUESS.

The typical arguments I hear are:
  1. God is about LOVE… so its OK
  2. God wants everyone to be happy… so its OK
Obviously I’m oversimplifying their actual arguments and there may be others…but in a nutshell, these are the 2 I most commonly hear, often times from heterosexuals arguing on their behalf.

Some, when presented with biblical verses will search for an alternative non-mainstream interpretation. The alternative interpretations I’ve heard are: (and again, to be fair, these are my paraphrases)

A) The Old Testament Letivicus verses use a word which essentially means “male prostitute” therefore the prohibition was against male prostitution, not Same Sex relationships, in and of themselves. So its OK

B) The New Testament verses talked about Sexual immorality and promiscuity. Essentially deviants and the like. Not same sex relationships, per se. So its OK

Now mainstream Christianity doesn’t agree with these justifications, so I am not condoning them, myself. Just trying to answer your question in the mindset of someone who is Christian and sees no problem with homosexual sex acts.

Therefore, it is OK? Remember that only a tiny fraction of what Jesus said and did is recorded in scripture. He speaks through His Church to all the world. He did speak about marriage (Matthew 19) being the natural and divinely-intended order of things. The Church, which speaks for Christ, teaches against homosexual behavior. She teaches that marriage is between one man and one woman.

This description of the situation is confusing. Are the first “two people” the same as the second “two people”? What is a MCC church?

Sorry, you misunderstand… The OP said
How do they reconcile what Jesus said to what they try to do?
In order to answer that question I need to know what it is he believes Jesus said that his friends would need to reconcile to…

Sorry for the confusion

God bless

Understood. Matthew 19, as it applies to marriage, speaks to this.

Jesus did not have to speak against gay marriage. Homosexual action was roundly condemned in the Old Testament. Jesus did not speak against it because it was already established as not of God. And Jesus was not contradicting past teachings. Paul spoke against it when he went to foreign lands where it was practiced.

MCC is Metropolitan Community Church, a gay church. I know it doesn’t make sense.

Sorry if I am confusing you. They are the same two people. One of the them is an ordain minister for their church. She actually has a degree in theology. Oh, the MCC church is answered by Pol18guy in post 6

Which of Jesus’ statements are you referring to?

I know little about the MCC except that it is primarily a church for homosexuals. However, I have heard that it is a loose denomination and the different congregations can vary greatly in their theology and practice.

I wonder if the website for local church might provide some information?

Rom 1:27 and the males likewise gave up natural relations with females and burned with lust for one another. Males did shameful things with males and thus received in their own persons the due penalty for their perversity.

1 Cor :9-10

9 Do you not know that the unjust will not inherit the kingdom of God? Do not be deceived; neither fornicators nor idolaters nor adulterers nor boy prostitutes nor practicing homosexuals
10 nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor robbers will inherit the kingdom of God.

1 Tim 1:8-11

8 We know that the law is good, provided that one uses it as law,

9 with the understanding that law is meant not for a righteous person but for the lawless and unruly, the godless and sinful, the unholy and profane, those who kill their fathers or mothers, murderers,

10 the unchaste, practicing homosexuals, kidnappers, liars, perjurers, and whatever else is opposed to sound teaching,

11 according to the glorious gospel of the blessed God, with which I have been entrusted.

I see fat people in church all the time with their fat children. Gluttony is a pretty big sin, and it is a deadly one. I don’t know how christians reconcile the Bible’s clear mandates on gluttony with committing this sin every day and teaching their children this deadly sin.

Living in Texas, I’m sure you see far more gluttons than gays in your church. Why aren’t you preoccupied with their reconciiation between their faith and their actions?

It is a shame that the hate you have comes out this way. Why not start your own thread and see what responses you get instead of hi-jacking my thread.

Is that seriously the only answer you people have to any question? Whenever anyone questions your reasoning, they “hate” you.

The Bible says gluttony is a sin, and what’s more, that gluttons should “take a knife to their throat.” It is not just condemned in the OT, it is clearly condemned in the scriptures.

Texas is filled with gluttons, but none of them disturb you. Only homosexuals do, even though the scriptures only mention homosexuality once and mention gluttony several times, which indicates this is a more grievious offense.

When someone points out your hypocricy, then they hate you.

My guess is that you yourself are a glutton and can’t stand the fact that according to SCRIPTURE, you are more low in the eyes of God than any homsexual. If you include the whole Bible, gluttony is probably mentioned twenty times more than homosexuality is.

I think it shows a real lack of intelligence and maturity that any challenge to your selective discrimination is, “you hate me! You hate me!” because you can’t HONESTLY answer the question of why gluttons don’t bother you and homosexuals do.

Again, my guess is that you are a glutton and hate being reminded of the fact you don’t follow God’s law any more than homosexuals do. Then you might have to realize your hatred against homosexuals is based on your own bigotry, and you use the Bible not as guide but to selectively cherry pick for passages that justify your bigotry, the same way racists and sexists have done for centuries. You don’t care about homosexuals because the Bible tells you, or you would be far more concerned with gluttony, as it is far more discussed in the scriptures and the Bible as a whole. You follow the Bible because you can pick out some choice passages that you feel legitimize your hatred of homosexuals.

If your faith is so weak that it can’t stand up to the least bit of scrutiny without you retreating into your little victim corner of “help! help! Someone is using reason against me and I’m being oppressed,” that should make you rethink things.

Have you ever seen a documentary about white suppremacists? Their language is indistiguishable from homophobes on this web page. They use the Bible to justify their hate against non whites, say that anyone who disapproves of racism is “hateful,” claim they are fighting evil in the name of God. Oh, and they also hate gays too.

How does it feel knowing that your opinion of gays is the same as the KKK, the Taliban, and Nazis? Personally, if I realized I shared the same view of a group of people with these three groups, I’d rethink my position.

Again with this hate. The bible states many things are a sin. I am only talking about a situation in my life. I am not going to change my thread because you want to. Again, if you really want to talk about other sins, start your own thread. But, the looks of it, you seem to be trying to throw all threads off by your comments. But hey, we are all sinners, and forgiveness is what we strive for, so I do forgive you.
Oh, since you asked, people do not bother me, homosexual acts that are "justified under god’ do if that makes any sense.

Also, another point of hypocricy: you feel perfectly at home injecting your views onto homosexuals in your society, but you can’t stand someone listing an opposing viewpoint in your thread?

Like all bullies, you are perfectly willing to condemn people but are so fragile that you can’t even handle someone questioning your motives.

…
Hold on, friend. This fiasco started when homosexuals tried to force their beliefs on the rest. To wit:
Finally, “Straight Talk” From the Homosexual Agenda
by Austin Nimocks
Oct. 20, 2008
We all love and appreciate honesty, and it’s finally coming from the most unlikely of sources—the homosexual agenda. No matter what side of the issues of homosexual behavior you may find yourself supporting, a standing ovation is appropriate.
John Corvino, I salute you.
You see, back in August, my jaw hit the floor when I read a column 365gay.com/features/082908-corvino Corvino wrote that was breathtakingly honest. You see, for many years, the homosexual agenda’s intentions, goals, and beliefs have been shrouded in smokescreens of “equality,” “benefits,” and “fairness.” Yet Corvino provided a breath of fresh air, telling us what those who engage in homosexual behavior really want: moral approval. …

“Previous generations of social experimenters have caused unimaginable misery for millions of people. None of them have ever been held accountable.
