But civil unions do not define a couple as a family, they define a couple as two people who have devoted themselves to each other. There is further problem with the idea of impossing Christ’s law and ideals upon a society, as not everyone in that society is Christian. What about other religious people - Muslims, Jews etc. What about agnostics and atheists? We cannot force our beliefs upon them, and can Christians themselves find a single viewpoint on the matter - definetely not - people such as the pope and some RC bishops and other bishops would most certainly oppose civil unions, however, people such as Bishop Gumbleton, Bishop Spong, Bishop Robinson and Archbishop Williams would probably not voice opposition to civil unions. This would be true if I was spouting “my” views. But I’m not. I’m just reiterating what The Church teaches traditionally and Traditionally. Christ is the King of heaven and earth, and even if society chooses not to recognize His Kingship, this does not change the fact that society does indeed have an obligation to order itself after His Law. And we as believers have the obligation to do what we can by word and example to make this happen. This starts by ordering our little micro-societies (our families) with Christ as King. Two men/women in “civil union” does not conform to the natural or Supernatural concept of family.
Not at all. I see Christians writing about Truth (with a capital T) all the time, What do they mean by that. Is it different from truth ( with a lower case T)? Do you know?I think you are starting to grasp at straws here. You know, talk in circles.
The Truth, God’s word. The ultimate Truth. The almighty Truth. The Truth in any given situation no matter what the circumstance is. The Truth that never changes and transcends time. It was the Truth 3000 years ago and is the Truth today. The truth is that I went to the store today and bought earings for myself. Now I could lie and say that I bought groceries or socks, but I’m telling the truth. Not at all. I see Christians writing about Truth (with a capital T) all the time, What do they mean by that. Most other “religious” people, Muslims, Jews, etc… hold the same beliefs we as Catholics do about homosexuality and it’s consequences, so it would be impossible for us to push our beliefs on them. There are those who dissent, example: some of the people on this forum who say they believe SSM should be legal. Agnostics and atheists make up for about .1%-.3% of the population. But civil unions do not define a couple as a family, they define a couple as two people who have devoted themselves to each other. How can we oppose civil unions as a society, when as a Christian church we cannot even find one similar view? It is impossible to impose a belief, defending it with the claim that it is founded in Christian ideology, which is not even defined.
U are forgetting smething. Der is a grwing atheism, dey believe in Science isntead. U are also forgetting dat jst 'coz dey say dey r christian doesn’t mean dat dey dnt disregard religious beliefs. I jst dnt get it. Also y cnt the gvrnment pass gay marriage? Its not as if dey’re going to make the churches of our religion and the churchges or mosque of other religions right? The wed lock should be outside teh church or religions. Most other “religious” people, Muslims, Jews, etc… hold the same beliefs we as Catholics do about homosexuality and it’s consequences, so it would be impossible for us to push our beliefs on them. I guess we are not talking in circles if you really do make a distinction between Truth and truth. See, now I know what Christians mean when they use Truth. The Truth, God’s word. The ultimate Truth. But Catholics who reject the Vatican teaching on marriage make up an overwhelming majority. Most other “religious” people, Muslims, Jews, etc… hold the same beliefs we as Catholics do about homosexuality and it’s consequences, so it would be impossible for us to push our beliefs on them. Ur not mad at me r uI guess we are not talking in circles if you really do make a distinction between Truth and truth. See, now I know what Christians mean when they use Truth.
Catholic’s who reject The Church’s Teachings are not true to their Faith, I personally have no use for a “so-called Catholic” who tells me I’m a fool for believing in the Teachings of the Church, the ones who laugh at me for going to Confession 2x a month, for not using BC (when I was younger), for my strong stand on issues such abortion, SSM and the like. Most Devout Catholic’s would rather have a smaller stronger Church, then a mass number of CINO’s (Catholic in name only). People like yourself who are not Catholic, and I respect that, I am more then willing to explain why we do what we do, but when you repeatly insult Our Church in many different threads on CAF, where many people so patiently try to explain to you and even some have provided links to help you understand. Either you really don’t understand and need more help, perhaps talk to a Priest, you don’t have to be Catholic, but if you are just here to cause trouble and try to make fools out of Catholic’s I am asking you politely to please STOP. It’s not funny. But Catholics who reject the Vatican teaching on marriage make up an overwhelming majority.
The religions may have documents saying something, but, as we see with Catholics, that dosn’t mean the people accept. Those who accept are a much smaller group. So, those atheists have huge support from Catholics, Christians, Jews, Muslims, Hindus, etc.
Yeah that was discussed quite a while ago, however some points were brought up about the fact that the attitude of homosexuals having diseases is not really fair, and is a bit of a stereotype.I haven’t read all the posts but has anyone mentioned that is primarily unhealthy for the two partners physically (I can’t go into detail) and therefore would drive up health costs for society as a whole?

peaceLesbians? They have the lowest rate of STD.I haven’t read all the posts but has anyone mentioned that is primarily unhealthy for the two partners physically (I can’t go into detail) and therefore would drive up health costs for society as a whole?
I frequently hear the notion that many Catholics would rather have a smaller more devout church. But then I always think afterwards that these Catholics do not realise quite how small such a church would be. Should the church try to remove all Catholics who do not agree with all teachings and doctrines of the church then they would be loosing bishops, cardinals and priests left right and centre, dicoses’ would be being closed down, people would not be able to get to churches, the church would loose a significant amount of money. It could be said that the “heretics” are both a blessing and a curse, for letting the church survive in such a vibrant manner, however they do also denounce church teaching.Catholic’s who reject The Church’s Teachings are not true to their Faith, I personally have no use for a “so-called Catholic” who tells me I’m a fool for believing in the Teachings of the Church, the ones who laugh at me for going to Confession 2x a month, for not using BC (when I was younger), for my strong stand on issues such abortion, SSM and the like. Well, then it might be more accurate to say Catholics who are true to their faith are trying to push their beliefs on others.Catholic’s who reject The Church’s Teachings are not true to their Faith, I personally have no use for a “so-called Catholic” who tells me I’m a fool for believing in the Teachings of the Church, the ones who laugh at me for going to Confession 2x a month, for not using BC (when I was younger), for my strong stand on issues such abortion, SSM and the like. Granted, but did you ever look at the medical explanations as to why STDs are faster spread through homosexual intercourse than through heterosexual intercourse? It was detailed in a book I read several years ago but I can’t remember the title.Yeah that was discussed quite a while ago, however some points were brought up about the fact that the attitude of homosexuals having diseases is not really fair, and is a bit of a stereotype.
This was said, as it seems to ignore lesbians, sexual infection rates among lesbians are very low, thus trying to claim that it is homosexuals that have many STD’s is not looking at the entire picture.
Also, it seems that the attitude about homosexuals having more diseases, especially STD’s is actually an out dated belief. This year, in a number of places, AIDS/HIV figures were higher among heterosexuals than among homosexuals.
PeaceObviously, I meant male homosexuals.:banghead:Lesbians? They have the lowest rate of STD.
