I think that some in the hierarchy of the RCC in the western "civilizations’ are apparently influenced by demons from whom their release may only be accomplished by fasting and prayer. Wouldn’t it be more prudent and efficacious, rather than calling and sending letters to our bishops in the same way that we do our political representatives, to fast and pray for them, since their immortal souls are so severely at risk?
Anyway, I think that’s what He would do (see - I was a protestant at one time - WWJD).

Let me quote an another phase from Bishop Chaput’s book;
(Page 146)

“Catholics have the duty not to “tolerate” other people but to love them, which is a much more demanding task. Justice, charity, mercy, courage, wisdom ---- these are Christian virtures; but not tolerance.”

And (page 154)

“God did not put us here to sit out the struggle for the soul of the public square.”

And I completely agree with Archbishop Chaput. He is a great Grace to those of us in the west US.

Hi Brigid. I think we should keep all actions visible. Letters, phone calles, editorials and prayer and fasting. We need to use everything we have.

Sure, that sounds fine, as long as we’re respectful and courteous in what we say to our bishops. I think it’s important to separate our democratic political process from our Christian and Catholic duty. Not that we should hide our heads in the sand, but rather have faith in Him through the avenues He (through his Church) has given us (prayer and fasting - this is a multitude of demons!).:crossrc: :highprayer:
How about having Masses said for the conversion of the hierarchy in the western “civilizations”, too?

Hi Brigid. Yes, respecful and courteous to those clergymen who deserve it, who haven’t fallen off the path of Church Teachings. Some of the misguided clergy have taken “political correctness” to the extreme and those, although they have been appointed by Mother Church, have the same human failings as the rest of us. I will be respectful and courteous to the Office they represent, but I have difficulty respecting the individual. Just because they wear a Roman Collor or a Mitre, doesn’t mean they can hold themselves above the law of God.

As an aside, I usually don’t question the clergy either. Most are decent men trying to do the teachings of the Church, but in this instance and with certain Church leaders, someone with an IQ of 50 could see they are out of line. Who will protect the innocent if we don’t, if we don’t raise our voices to the flaw of indifference?

Referring to the text in bold, who do you think makes this determination?

While Christ was certainly not always polite and did not always speak respectfully to the religious leaders of the day, He had the ability to read their hearts and know their intentions. I do not know about you, but I have not yet developed that ability.

I developed the ability to read the newspapers and surf the web quite a few years ago. I am talking mainly about the fiasco with Pelosi on Brokaws TV interview and AB Niederaur’s letter after he received many, many emails, and letters from very upset people asking him to take a firm stance regarding her, a member of his diocese and a public figure, causing scandal by supporting several abortion laws, am also concerned about Biden whose Bishop in 2004 issued a statement Biden was not to speak publically in any University in DE. As far as knowing what is in their hearts, that is an unknown. But we have only to look at their actions and non-actions regarding abortion. Are they a victim of RELATIVISM, or do they still uphold the ABSOLUTE TEACHINGS of the Roman Catholic Church? I think we can tell fairly well which clergy are wishy washy about abortion by looking at what is important in their parishes.

Pope Gregory the Great born 540 AD homily (sounds like things have not changed much)

Reading A homily of Pope St Gregory the Great
The performance of our ministry
Let us listen to what the Lord says as he sends the preachers forth: The harvest is great but the labourers are few. Pray therefore the Lord of the harvest to send labourers into his harvest. We can speak only with a heavy heart of so few labourers for such a great harvest, for although there are many to hear the good news there are only a few to preach it. Look about you and see how full the world is of priests, yet in God’s harvest a labourer is rarely to be found; for although we have accepted the priestly office, we do not fulfil its demands.
Beloved brothers, consider what has been said: Pray the Lord of the harvest to send labourers into his harvest. Pray for us so that we may have the strength to work on your behalf, that our tongue may not grow weary of exhortation, and that after we have accepted the office of preaching, our silence may not condemn us before the just judge. For frequently the preacher’s tongue is bound fast on account of his own wickedness; while on the other hand it sometimes happens that because of the people’s sins, the word of preaching is withdrawn from those who preside over the assembly.
With reference to the wickedness of the preacher, the psalmist says: But God asks the sinner: Why do you recite my commandments? And with reference to the latter, the Lord tells Ezekiel: I will make your tongue cleave to the roof of your mouth, so that you shall be dumb and unable to reprove them, for they are a rebellious house. He clearly means this: the word of preaching will be taken away from you because as long as this people irritates me by their deeds, they are unworthy to hear the exhortation of truth. It is not easy to know for whose sinfulness the preacher’s word is withheld, but it is indisputable that the shepherd’s silence while often injurious to himself will always harm his flock.
There is something else about the life of the shepherds, dearest brothers, which discourages me greatly. But lest what I claim should seem unjust to anyone, I accuse myself of the very same thing, although I fall into it unwillingly – compelled by the urgency of these barbarous times. I speak of our absorption in external affairs; we accept the duties of office, but by our actions we show that we are attentive to other things. We abandon the ministry of preaching and, in my opinion, are called bishops to our detriment, for we retain the honourable office but fail to practice the virtues proper to it. Those who have been entrusted to us abandon God, and we are silent. They fall into sin, and we do not extend a hand of rebuke.
But how can we who neglect ourselves be able to correct someone else? We are wrapped up in worldly concerns, and the more we devote ourselves to external things, the more insensitive we become in spirit.
For this reason the Church rightfully says about her own feeble members: They made me keeper of the vineyards, but my own vineyard I have not kept. We are set to guard the vineyards but do not guard our own, for we get involved in irrelevant pursuits and neglect the performance of our ministry.

His Grace was the speaker at this years Red Mass in Los Angeles. It would have been a great time to take on Dean Kmiec and the rest of the Biden/Obama supporters. It would have been a great time to mention Biden and other pro-abortion politicians can’t hide behind the"personal opposition" excuse. It would have been a great time to take on the issue of life in front of a whole bunch of judges, lawyers and other Catholic dignitaries.

Too bad it didn’t happen. It would have been great.
