I don’t think President Trump has any say whether Puerto Ricans pay federal income taxes.

The point is, it is part of the US. People there pay US taxes and are US citizens. An aid package because of a natural disaster is not charity. It is the US taking care of its own. And the aid package has not done nearly enough to recover from the disaster. So I don’t think Trump deserves any special kudos for doing what any decent person would do in his place.

To address your second point, one wonders if the charges are not being made specifically to silence a critic. It is a tactic many strongmen have used to solidify their power.

For instance, shortly after the hurricane hit, the government imposed a curfew from 6 pm to 6 am and then changed it. Now, it’s 7 pm to 5 am, and makes no sense. The curfew has prevented fuel trucks from transporting their loads.
