                                   Also, Tommy DiMassimino, the guy who rushed at Trump in Dayton is a Bernie supporter. The main group that was behind last month's anti-Trump march in NYC, the Cosmopolitan Anti-Fascists, who by the way support smashing those they consider fascists, have featured a number of posts and tweets on there site in support of Bernie Sanders, not to mention that Sanders supporters were involved in protests that turned violent in St Louis and Kansas City.

Which is why I said it was interesting. I was curious why it was brought up? Sanders isn’t a communist, so why are we talking about communist spies from decades ago?

So it indeed, has nothing to do with Sanders himself. This whole thing started because another poster didn’t like something a sanders supporter did and mused that we should use the federal government as a hammer to beat down political ideas we don’t like.

One reason why Sanders is getting so much support is the rise in the USA of the 1099 economy. The permanently or regularly employed W-2 workers cost about 30% more than the temporary or freelance 1099 workers because the employer of a 1099 worker is not responsible for healthbenefits, retirement, disability, paid sick, holiday leave, etc. Millions of Americans are now temporary, freelancers or day laborers. At the site freelancer.com, people auction themselves off and the result is that the customer gets the person who is willing to do the job at the lowest possible cost. Perhaps this is good for the customer, but it is the worker who ends up doing a job for much less than he should be paid. At the same time the top 10% of families own 75% of the wealth, and the bottom 50% own 1%.

Temporary and day laborers should be paid as w2 employees just like any other employee. The IRS comes down hard on employers who pay people on a 1099 basis when they should be statutory employees.

Uber and Lyft are in business and I don;t see where the IRS has come down hard on them or on Airbnb. The new trend is toward a sharing economy and 1099 workers.

Depends on the State-in California UBER driver are considered w2 employees

Uber just lost a lawsuit, but before that they were trying to get away with classifying their employees as 1099 not w2. But uber is not the only one. There are a whole bunch of companies that run labor brokerage worksites that allow workers to bid against each other, thereby driving down the cost of labor to the lowest possible bid. But the internet is global, so in some cases American workers have to compete with cheap third world labor in Thailand and India.
Companies like upwork, elance, taskrabbit, crowdflower, freelancer, all hope to profit from the new 1099 economy. And it is not just the independent contractor swindle that professional people have to deal with. It is the hiring of temporary, part time workers instead of the full time worker. For example, at the local state university, many years ago, there were only full time jobs available for faculty with a PhD in the given area of study. Now, however, it seems that each department hires more part time workers, instead of full time. So, students who have just graduated and don’t even have a master’s degree are teaching the courses at a cut rate cost to the university, which previously hired only full time PhD’s to teach the same courses. The government tells us that unemployment is down. But many of the people who the government considers to be employed are in part time temporary jobs as they are unable to find full time work.

I know what it is. It is greed on the part of the top 2%. The bottom 50% have less than 2% of the wealth. The greed on the top is clear from looking at the wage differential between the average worker and the top CEOs. Four CEOs earn more than 1,000 times the salary of their median worker. Consider for example the media company Discovery Communications, where CEO David Zaslav earned $156.1 million last year, nearly 1,951 times the firm’s median salary of $80,000.
This is another reason why Sanders appears so attractive to many young people today.
