If the universities raise tuition, wouldn’t taxes would have to be raised even more than what Bernie would want?
Right. So the government says they will pay X amount. The schools then continue to raise rates until the students have to take just as much loan debt as they currently do only the schools are making a lot more money due to the drastic increase in federal spending. Nobody wins but the school’s administrators. This plan of Bernie’s will simply not work. The government has the authority to tell them what they will pay per student to anyone who wants to remain a public institution. And that is exactly what they would do. If the school didn’t like it they could look into going private. This is a pretty standard form of budgeting.
Exactly. It’s basic economics - the more money is available, the higher prices will be. All Mr. Sanders’ proposal will do is further drive up the price of higher education.Right. No…the publicly funded schools would be required to allow students to come free of charge in order to receive the money. I don’t understand why everyone in this thread is acting like there aren’t already programs in place across the world that have accomplished this exact thing and that US lawmakers couldn’t handle a basic budgetary enforcement protocol.Right. Hm seems like I need to get my eyes checked because where I am from affluent urban California all the people voting for Sanders are in the 20s 30s and 40s! Never really seen many older people voting for this Man.Thanks, SL!

I’m interested to see what happens in Arizona. Frankly, a great many of my Democratic friends are Bernie supporters.
I’ve often thought that he might have really had a chance to take Hillary is he were 10 years younger,
Ugh seems like we e-bumped into each other, but don’t worry I am not interested in being called an e-stalker. But I do wish to say that yes most young people are lazy. But then they got that bad example from their parents and so forth. Plus our parents and probably your generation has some fault in the way us young adults have turned out. And btw don’t all politicians get their way by promising things, the more out of the box the better.most of them probably don’t understand economics or a hard work ethic…the latter which gets you promotions at work…work hard and that equivalent of $15/hr could be earned, not handed to you. Of course, that amount is unrealistic for a fast food place vs being a nurse or an EMT for example
Hey, that sounds like Trump in The Art of the Deal! One of the rules of politics is if you want x, ask for 1000x.
Heck no!!! I’m all about We the People! You Really need to change your Electrol System,
Because every 4. Years you create this Circus ,
And get someone who’s not the right man for the Job ,
The President should be Elected by a joint sitting of the House of Rep &. Senate ,
And people are nominated by State Governors ,
Surely it can’t be worse than your Annual Circus
All the Truth in one short post.Yeah in 08, people suspected Hillary supporters would stay home too or not vote for Obama. Obama also won states in the general which Hillary had won in the primaries. A lot might depend on Bernie. He will make a speech at the convention I am certain and he has been very clear on our need to keep Republicans such as Trump/Cruz out of the WH. He has been very vocal about Trump. Btw I’m one of his supporters and I’m already on board with Clinton. And it’s only March. Nov is still nearly 8 mos away.
Yup I feel the same way!Heck no!!! I’m all about We the People!
We’ll never get rid of the Electoral College & I like the idea of the House & Senate meeting together to choose the President but that wouldn’t work because only one-third of the Senate is up for election in each cycle. Maybe the House plus two at-large electors from each State. You Really need to change your Electrol System,

That only works if, like the places across the world you mention, if the federal government has control of the universities. With the proposal you have here, all a school has to do is realize they can take X amount from the government or X + Y from the student. If the schools would get more money by declining the government option and getting the same level of income and increases they are now, why would they change? No…the publicly funded schools would be required to allow students to come free of charge in order to receive the money. I’m not even calling it a good policy, I am just saying that the argument being used against it is incredibly naive and out of place.
If a public option was offered many students would select that option and since there was obviously money to be made (and also money to be lost from the resultant decrease in student loan funding) some public schools would adopt the system. Heck some public schools already have a pretty heavy degree of influence from their state and wouldn’t be able to really say no.That only works if, like the places across the world you mention, if the federal government has control of the universities. And I’m another Sanders supporter who will certainly vote for Hillary should she win the nomination, and it looks like she will. All the Truth in one short post.
In every single election as soon as one side understands that their guy/gal is NOT going to be the chosen nominee, the loser’s supporters say “We will never ever vote for the other Dem/Repub in the general!”
And then that never ever happens because people are smarter than their most disappointing moments.
Well I did try to keep that one brief. All the Truth in one short post.

I support him in so far as he beats Hillary!Who are the Catholics here that support Bernie?
It is good that you won’t vote for him in the general election. I do not think it is right for a Catholic to support Sanders at all.I support him in so far as he beats Hillary!
I will not be voting for him in the general however.
well he has run a good campaign. I don’t agree with his view for our country, but he has ran a pretty good campaign against Hillary. He has a pretty good following. It is good that you won’t vote for him in the general election. I do not think it is right for a Catholic to support Sanders at all.
