In your opinion, perhaps, but my point is that the right always wants God and the left only want him when it’s convenient.
And, of course, that’s in your opinion. But, I see that there are secularists on both the right and left, there are atheists and agnostics on both the right and left (political conservatism doesn’t presume or need a belief in God - there are numerous reasons why one might choose to be a conservative), so you cannot say that the “right always wants God.” And there are good Christians and Jews on the left (including orthodox Catholics like my wife and I) who want Him always.

You can’t make a generalization like you did. Both the left and the right have such large tents that you can find people of every belief under each of them.

The culture of death issues are mainly supported by the left. That is common knowlege.

Yes, but the death penalty, also part of the Culture of Death, probably has more support from the right.

I agree with you in saying “mainly.” There are pro-abortion conservatives, to be sure, though not as many as pro-abortion leftists.

I won’t debate the merits of the death penalty, that is an issue for another thread. However, since the Bible and catholicism allow for it, I do not think it is part of the culture of death.

I respect those with moral arguments both for and against the death penalty, but I think it is a grave error to lump it into a category with abortion, euthanasia, and casualties of war.

Blessings.

I include it because it is part of a culture of toleration of death as a solution to a problem, even a criminal problem. Yes, it is tolerable under very restricted circumstances, but still IMO comes under the death camp’s tent.

I respect your opinion. I also appreciate how you engage in intellectual discussion with those you disagree with instead of insulting them or their motives. I like you. :tiphat:

Thanks. I’ve noticed that you yourself don’t automatically presume that those of us to the left of center are heterodox semi-atheist Satan-serving pro-abortion anti-American traitors. 🙂

Sadly, I’m disappointed that some of the worst polarized judgmentalism I’ve encountered on a discussion board is on this Forum. Even the people on the evangelical Rapture Ready Board are far more charitable to each other and to Catholics (in my experience), even in disagreement. We Catholics should act better towards each other.

I’ve found that, for the most part, the people whom I most disagree with often have the same noble motives that I have, they just have a different perspect/solution.

Sadly, this is true as well. A few weeks ago, I was taken in by something that ended up being incorrect propoganda (I won’t say “hoax” since I believe the person who published it was in sincere error, not trying to deceive or mislead anyone). Within 5 minutes, someone posted a comment and a link refuting what I had posted, and I promptly admitted it was wrong (actually, I was glad it was wrong). Well, for the next few dozen posts, many people from both sides were quite uncharitable, beating me from pillar to post despite the fact that I acknowledged it was a mistake (in their defense, they probably didn’t read far enough to see my multiple acknowledgements of being wrong). I didn’t post again for several days, embarrassed and a bit hurt by how I was treated. Thankfully, the whole thing died down.

Anyways, that’s a bit off topic. What was the topic? Satan and Bush? We can disagree about Bush, but I’m sure Satan enjoys it when we are hostile to each other. (okay, maybe a bit lame, but I was trying to tie this back to the original topic  )

Blessings to all. 👋

Yes. I have been bothered by some of the attacks on you.
