Satan in the book of Job

Look at the wording in Job: Will have to check the commentaries, but this seems to indicate that the devil was only among the sons of God - not directly stating that he was (then) one of them. God even asked him where he had come from.

A point to ponder, certainly. However, it appears that the devil may have inserted himself into the sons of God, as he was specifically asked where he had come from. God may have used this as a test, or to indicate to the faithful sons thart this new guy was not really one of them any longer. Again, the Book of Job is essentially a poem and we have no way of knowing if Job is historical or allegorical in nature - maybe both. Yet the book teaches revealed truth.

A key fact is Satan’s observation that Job was well off and it was easy for him to be good. Satan was obviously already watching the good Job before he was called before God! Hence, God was exposing what Satan was already planning before the Heavenly court.

Stunning. Although I am quite fond of St.Ambrose and St.Jerome; I will mention one other for discussion: St. Augustine; OK two Thomas Aquinas. The litany of other scholars of the Catholic Church continues into modern times.

However, I am not sure what it has to with the satan in the book of Job.
