Satanism: Do you know the difference?

In a thread on LaVeyan Satanism (posted by a LaVeyan Satanist who hasn’t been seen since the thread reached over 500 posts), I can safely assume that only a precious few here know the difference between Theistic Satanism and LaVeyan Satanism.

Satanism, in general, is an umbrella term, just as well as Christianity is: There are denominations-- although Satanism only contains about 5 or 6 denominations, whereas Christianity has more than hundreds.

My question: Do you know the differences between the following denominations?

LaVeyan Satanism
Temple of Set
Modern Satanism
Theistic Satanism
Luciferianism
Satanism Dabbling

Temple of Set: worship occurs on movie sets
Modern Satanism: evangelize via iPods
Theistic Satanism: believe that Satan is a deity of supernatural origin
Luciferianism: consider Venus as the planetary symbol of God
Satanism Dabbling: Satanic version of the Neo-Pagan Fluffy-Bunnies

I believe that Levyan Satanism is hedonism and self-centredness writ large wrapped up in athiesm with no real devil worship other than playacting and dress-up.The others?-no idea…

Well, I guess that *is *close enough. 🙂 LaVeyan Satanism is the worship of your own life and the lives of loved ones.

Okay, cool. 🙂 But, there is actually a difference between LaVeyan and Modern: Modern Satanists don’t believe in the use of magic. Otherwise, you are right in saying they’re basically the same-- and yet you can probably say Protestants and non-denominational Christians are the same as well. 😉

That’s cool. I’ve only begun my studies. 🙂 I have many books on World Religions, and hope to learn more.
 
I think I’m going to give this thread another day or two. It seems as if many members fear to even answer such a “taboo” subject. I’ll give the answers soon.

To those who don’t know the differences, you’d be surprised.
