Saturday Vigil instead of Sunday Mass?

joandarc2008, the Vigil Mass homily is supposed to go with the next day, but if it does not it still fulfills the requirement for the next day.

There is an unusual example of Sunday evening Mass for Monday obligation: in Dec 8, 2003 the Solemnity of the Immaculate Conception occurred on a Monday so it was a holy day of obligation. That does not happen much, but certainly in these years: … 1958, 1969, 1975, 1986, 1997, 2003, 2014, 2025, 2031, 2042, 2053, 2059, 2070 …

(But some parishes do not have a Monday Vigil Mass on Sunday, rather Vespers and Benediction.)

I know this is a month old thread. But I just wanted to respond to one of the poster’s mentioning that Vigil Mass is in general more lax in dress and all. I just want to say that at my parish I go to Vigil Mass. It is the more traditional of all our Masses. We have Latin and Chant, and incense at the Vigil Mass none of the other Masses have even incense. I have also heard that other Vigil Masses elsewhere are also the more traditional…and folks dress nice too and ladies cover. We don’t have a Tridentine Mass available in my area within an acceptable distance (it’s over 150 miles round-trip). So I really appreciate our Vigil Mass.
