The Bible as a whole was not compiled until the late 4th century and then it was compiled by a Catholic at the request of a Catholic pope (St. Damasus I). So how were the early Christians saved if they did not possess the entire written “Word of God” to follow His teachings?

The person and work of Jesus Christ saves sinners and not the Bible nor the Catholic Church. The Old Testament and the New Testament poin to the person and work of Jesus Christ, and glorious gospel of God’s grace. Christianity is about a person (God incarnate) and not about a religious insitituion or a book.

There are two basic types of revelation from above. General revelation (Psalm 19, and Romans 1) which is universal in nature. The second revelation is about the person and work of Jesus Christ (Christ and Him crucified, gospel of God’s grace). It is called special revleation which is necessary to be reconciled to God.

In this passage, Jesus is rebuking them…because they were searching the scriptures (Old testament) in hopes they would find Him there…find some clue about the messiah…busy reading and searching for the coming of the messiah… So absorbed in looking for Him, that they failed to see He was THERE! With them!

This passage is a great example of Christ in the Eucharist! Let us not forget that the scriptures bear witness of our Lord…but that if we truly want to find Him all we need do is look to His Church! Because He is there, calling us to Him

Do you see what you’re asking? You don’t want people to turn to Jesus, you want us to turn to a deficient view and understanding of Jesus. You want us to leave Him behind, not turn towards Him.

I have never told anyone to leave the Roman Catholic Church. I am telling Protestants and Catholics alike to look to Jesus. We should remind each other about Jesus Christ and Him crucified. We need Christ-centered Christianity in Protestant, Catholic, Orhtodox, and Anglican churches. Our churches cannot be the center of Christianity, because Christ is the center of our faith. As Christians, we proclaim Christ to Christians and ubelievers alike.

I don’t think He was rebuking them for searching the Scriptures. After all, the Bereans were called noble for doing the very same thing. He’s rebuking them because the Scriptures testified of Him and they were failing to see that. They thought they had eternal life in the Scriptures and weren’t recognized that the Scriptures testified of Christ. The Scriptrures are the word of God, I’d hardly think they’d be rebuked for searching them when the Bereans did the same thing and were called noble. No, that’s not what the rebuke was about imho.

Why doesn’t anybody see how Christ is not the center of our churches in the 21st century as a norm. This is not a Catholic or a Protestant plauge, but this is a problem throughout the churches. This is an issue in all our churches, because we can easily loose our first love. Have anybody ever read the book of Revelation?

Look at what it once was, indulgences, holy wars, and politics (and now we have practicing homosexual priests which is clearly an abomination). The USA’s Founding Fathers say nothing about the Four Freedoms - & some of them were slave-owners. Does that mean that the Gettysburg Address corrupts the Declaration of Independence ? Where was the Monroe Doctrine in 1787 ? It didn’t exist. The Founding Fathers did not “possess the entire written” Constitution - not from the POV of 2008.​

If the Founding Fathers survived without the Four Freedoms, or the Fifth Amendment, so should people in the USA today. If 13 States & a mostly agrarian economy was enough for George Washington - it should be enough for George Bush II. So why isn’t it.

The answer is obvious - & it answers most aspects of your question.

I thought the Catholic Church started at Pentecost according to Catholics on this site. Jesus appeared in the OT and He is also eternal.
