… and remember you can watch EWTN TV thru the internet!!!

If your computer isn’t that old! I might be able to do so now with the new-used computer we have but that would also mean I probably couldn’t do my work on the computer while having the TV on in the background. I do like EWTN and some of what is on TV land and on the Disney Channels, some Spike TV has the occassional decent movie on where-as Lifetime drives me nuts . 🙂 I do refuse to pay extra for some of the other channels though like Fox News etc. although at certain times of the years we have found that they are given “free” like during the election we had Fox News for several weeks.

I find TV to be a good way to wind down - I tend though not to watch it but listen to it. I might be reading a book or crocheting or doing something else while watching tv, i also tend to head off to bed no later than 11 when I am tired and can leave in the middle of a movie or show - doesn’t bother me in the least.

I like to spend most of my time on weekends watch sports, mostly during football season. During the week it is the History Channel and other educational channels and most definetly the cartoon network for my kids. Not all cartoons because some a demented. But I love my TV also. 👍
Cartoon network is trash. I have an 8 year old and walked in (6pm) to find him watching Hellboy! There was a lot of cursing and blood. I was shocked. I was aware of adult swim which comes on at 9pm and we have a block that is activated at that time, but I had no idea about some of the other shows that are on that network.

We enjoy watching TV!

My boys enjoy the Disney Channel, Animal Planet (new found favorite!), Nickelodeon, etc…
My husband and I enjoy History, TLC, Fine Living, Travel, Discovery, EWTN (of course!), and a few things on Comedy Central, etc, etc…

We’re hardly ever home (both work full time, kids go to daycare), so it’s not like we’re in front of the tube all day by any means (probably less than most stay-at-home-moms w/ kids)…

But we do enjoy family time hugging and laughing on the couch…

Balance… all things in moderation… 😉

I agree …balance …moderation.

I’ll say ‘Yes’ to TV…I watch different shows and certainly know how to change the chanel when something comes on that is objectionable.

I enjoy many of the shows other posters have mentioned…

The thing I don’t understand is , and I mean this charitably, why give up tv and yet they are still on the computer/internet

There are quality programs to watch, just like anything else do it in moderation and its fine. I like my sports, reality shows, religious shows, there are many learning shows as well I watch. I make it a point to find time reading Gods word, and spiritual, and self help books also.

Can’t say that I love TV…It used to be more addictive than anything. Now, I realize how much time I used to waste just watching things that will never help me to relax…much less grow closer to God.

Commercials are the worst and you don’t have that on the computer.

Good point and I agree.

When does Uncle Miltie come on?

Or Jackie Gleason, Jack Benny, the Tonight Show pre Leno.

I enjoy watching TV but now that I’m in college, I hardly have enough time to watch TV. 😛

The cable man is coming over today to disconnect my service.

American society is so attached to TV that I wonder what they’d do if one morning they woke up and it was no longer available.

We pay billions for people to play games so we can watch. Waste of time.

We pay a monthly fee to watch people sin. Waste of time and potentially damaging to one’s walk with Christ.

The “news” is not the news. It’s a bunch of pundits twisting words and pushing either Hudge or Gudge’s agenda. Waste of time.

News is Who, What, When, Where and How. There’s about 15 minutes of news per day and 23:45 of people spinning so much that it makes one’s head hurt.

These are just my opinions.

I need to find something useful to occupy the space taken up by this riduculous contraption.

P.S. I do watch ETWN, on my computer now. 😉

PapaSquash, don’t forget that we need more G.K. Chesterton also!!! 😃

My only observation to getting rid of TV is that we can’t forget that the majority of Americans watch a LOT of TV. It is a major influence on our culture in many ways (obesity, shapes our moral viewpoint, takes time away from conversation with loved ones, determines our bedtime, etc, etc.).

We don’t have to make it an influence in our lives, but others do. It’s just important to remember that when interacting with others. We’re “missionaries,” strangers in a strange land, aliens, and we are here to be salt and light, which means loving people where they are. And in order to know where they are, we have to understand what they are talking about. “Lost” is not a description of a person without Christ. “Heroes” are not Joshua, David, Daniel, Paul, etc. “American Idol” is not Baal or Molech. CSI doesn’t stand for Christ, Savior Indeed. And “Law and Order” is not what we want in our neighborhood! (Actually, we do, hopefully.)

And frankly, I think it’s very helpful to have at least a working knowledge of sports, especially the big ones–football, baseball, and basketball–so that you can fit in a little during a casual workplace or social conversation. My husband and I never used to watch these sports, and we had a difficult time helping others feel comfortable around us. After we got interested in football, we’ve found that it’s a lot easier to just carry on small talk and put people at ease. You don’t have to spend hours watching the games, but at least know about the games and the teams. JMO.

As for the news–that’s a kicker. I don’t think ANYONE has fair and accurate news, including the Christian news sources. But we have to get the information somewhere about what’s happening in the world.
