Does anyone feel cowed by the peer pressure to support gay marriage. Do you feel you could lose your job of you spoke out against it? Do you feel you might lose friendships? Are you willing to be persecuted for standing up for Christ’s teaching on marriage?

Thoughts please. Any examples of you heroically defending Christ’s teaching on marriage at the workplace? Maybe you’ve had a ‘diversity’ course and have piped up?

Or maybe you have chickened out and rationalised not speaking up at the right time by falling back on the ‘throwing pearl to swines’ passage in Scriptures?

I don’t understand why anyone would support something they do not believe in. The church it seems would never recognise ss marriage because it does not lead to pro creation. Can it recognise ss union, as in two ss humans living together as partners in life, I don’t know.
If two people of the same sex wish to marry by state I have no problem with it, I would not force my opinion on anyone, if they want to marry in church then the church can explain why they can not do this.

Its a very sensitive topic, one that has much to consider for peoples wellbeing.

Well, I can tell you as a Catechist of teens, it’s a touchy subject. We recently had a lesson on what the Church really teaches about people with SSA and the kids wigged out.
I mean, shouting at the catechists, making crazy accusations of hatred, asking things like
" How do YOU know what God wants anyway?"
“Gays are great because they adopt kids no one wants”
“Gays should be allowed to marry, I have gay friends and they are so cute!”
“What if there are gay people in the room? Don’t you think you’re offending them?”

Wow. Was a rough night.
People today have been led to believe that all Christians hate gays.

Nothing could be further from the truth. But this is why so few people even want to work with teenagers anymore.
But no, I’m not scared.
It’s not so much about being “against” gay marriage as teaching them that there is no such thing as marriage between the same sex. Marriage for many people has been redefined to suit. The church is pretty clear that marriage is between a man and a woman.
Young people have a hard time accepting this. In many cases, this is what tears them from the Church. It’s pretty sad.
But, one has to advance truth, no?

Good for you for teaching them right from wrong. They will remember you. 🙂

I have spoken up in private a few times, but hardly ever, especially not at work. I work for a Canadian company and I think it would be against our HR policy for me to say anything. They have even had gay charities for our monthly giving campaigns. I’m in my 20’s and most people would think I was crazy and/or a horrible person if I stated my views.

Thanks. At the end of the night, the Anglo kids refused to participate in the closing prayer, and stomped out, even to the point of texting each other about “disagreeing with Miss Clare, so let’s all wear LGBT colors next week to class”.
Conversely, the Mexican kids applauded.
:blushing:

This. I work in a profession where even suggesting or hinting that you are not totally on board with gay marriage (or any other popular political position) is enough to get you ostracized, so I usually have to just choose to remain silent and say nothing.

But we’re the intolerant ones.

I am technician so I work outside the office area with a few other technicians (different people at each job) we talk about it from time to time, most of my co-workers are not for or against gay marriage but there is one guy I used to work with and he and I would get into it from time to time over the issue. I don’t worry about getting turned in for expressing my views because I work in a blue collar male only environment were tattling is really looked down upon. If you turn someone in for saying this or that you will be taught a lesson by the guys and never do it again any disputes are handled within the group. So yes I freely express my opposition to gay marriage.

By voicing my opposition to a gay marriage within my own family it cost me plenty.
All I have now is one relative that also rejected the idea.
Lets just say I probably will not be getting invited to the next family reunion.
I think losing your family hurts more than offering your opinion and losing an acquaintance
or possibly upsetting a stranger.

I’m a rather quiet fellow, and usually would only voice my opinion when asked. But I don’t really care too much about state marriages. I don’t want my religion mucked up by politics, so I try to keep them separated. I think of marriage as a sacrament, first and foremost, but imagine if other sacraments had a state equivalent. What if Baptism or Confirmation or Holy Orders was supported by the government? It’s like the Protestant Reformation, the Catholic Church was the only church in western Europe and her sacraments were the only valid ones. Then protestantism started showing up and claiming their sacraments were just as valid. I understand marriage lingered as a secular idea because of contracts between spouses and between families, but I feel its secular usefulness has run its course.

Wait where is these kids tolerance? Aren’t they supposed to coexist?

The peace of Christ,
Mark

Definitely need to read the book “Making Gay OK”

The Gay Agenda is clear: Shut down freedom of speech and freedom of religion.

In the church of high school I suppose. the good part is that they went home complaining and then parents called me to thank me for setting their kids straight as far as church teaching goes. They had apparently either
A) had been discussing it with their children to no avail or
B) had no clue that their kids felt that way

It was quite the eye-opener fro many conservative parents. Most of them had no idea what their kids believe on this that or the other. 🤷

I have argued against gay marriage and still manage to be liked by LGBT people. It really matters how you do it.

We need to tell them about what God says in a non abrasive manner; it’s their well being we are looking out for. Eternity is forever.

Sorry to hear that. But wonder if they think abortion is okay too? And if we are offending the unborn? Then they could be told they are not supposed to have sex outside of marriage and to go have a doctor suck the life out of a living fetus because they don’t want anyone telling them what to do, but don’t worry about it. Dead babies can’t speak. Just a way to diffuse the subject for a minute. Then reignite it. It’s all God’s law.

I don’t hide my faith or my beliefs from anyone. I don’t shove them down everyone’s throats but if I get asked I state them with clarity and charity. It has cost me, I had a family member come out of the closet to me and I told them that I didn’t support it, but that they were family and my love for them remained unchanged. They then grew quite cold to me and stated I’d likely never see them again. I work for a major branch of the US Government, and no one has explicitly asked me about my beliefs yet on the subject, but I wear a crucifix on the outside of my work clothes so they can figure it out for themselves. If I ever were confronted I’ll be honest. If I lose my job, then I lose my job.

Perhaps because you rarely if at all directly engage pro-gay “marriage” posters on gay “marriage” and issues like the gay adoption of kids. You speak LGBT language very well and are on the frequent offensive against all things heteronormative. You may have on occasion stated gay sex is wrong, but are quick to excuse and would even promote gay romance as long as it does not technically fall under sodomy. Not to mention that you reserve cynicism and disdain only for heterosexual sins.

Yes, no matter how much it hurts. I feel for you, but also feel so sad that this way of life is pushed to the forefront on tv and other media outlets. The children think it must be ok because everyone is doing it… Praying for you and our children…
