In response to the terror you are experiencing from this article, look toward Mary. If anyone knew Jesus well, it was his own mother. She knows him and more importantly loves him more than anyone else being his mother. There is a real bond of love between a mother and child, a love that is rarely seen in anyone else’s love.
There has been a strong tradition in the church that Jesus himself gave us his mother to be our mother. Jesus not only gave us himself, but even gave us his mother to help us and to love us. And I have often thought why would he do this when his own life was more than enough for us. And the only answer I can come up with is that he knew that he would not refuse his mother anything she asked him for, since she refused him nothing he asked her for.
And so when we became Mary’s sons and daughters by Christ’s desire, he knew he would not refuse to give us the graces she asked for us, and she would be the reason he would save some of the ugliest people on earth who didn’t deserve to be saved. He would not refuse her, and she would ask because she has a bond of mother love to us all. And so the worst of sinners have gone to Mary knowing she would obtain for them what they knew they could not dare ask for themselves. And Jesus knew this … and so he said to St. John from the painful cross … “behold your mother”.
If you are frightened and terrorized by some really horrible thoughts, then snuggle next to your mother, and stay close to her always.
Memorare
Remember, O most gracious Virgin Mary, that never was it known that anyone who fled to your protection, implored your help, or sought your intercession was left unaided.
Inspired by this confidence, I fly unto you, O Virgin of virgins, my mother; to you I come, before you I stand, sinful and sorrowful. O Mother of the Word Incarnate, despise not my petitions, but in your mercy hear and answer me.
Amen.
“Immaculate Heart of Mary, pray for us now and at the hour of our death.”
