Maybe we are focusing on the wrong thing here.

Suppose the courts/legislature required the Church to hire female priests.

Suppose the bishops knuckled under to this law.

Let them hire and ordain all the female priests they want to, we as laity are free to attend whichever parish we want at whatever Mass time we choose. Let these women play dress up and pretend Mass. But we will only attend Mass and receive Sacraments offered by orthodox, legitimately ordained male priests.
I highlighted and underlined a “catch” here:
The catch is that the government cannot ordain anyone and I really don’t think they ever will.

If, however, there are bishops out there that will ordain women, I have to say that Rome will most swiftly step in to take care of that. They already have, somewhere in NY, I think, just a few years ago when a number of women were “ordained.” They were excommunicated along with that bishop, I think.

That parish may not have a priest for Mass and sacraments but like someone else said, you don’t get any spiritual benefits from an invalid Mass - so…Carpooling is the answer!!! Shotgun!!!

It’s Sunday so I’ll be very brief and not allow myself to go fully ballistic. We live in a nation of many freedoms and comforts. All around the world, people suffer for their faith on a daily basis. It seemed to me that this thread might address the ending of the already existing schisms that have given great sorrow and unrest to those in the Catholic Church in this country.

No. This thread is about doomsday scenarios and henny penny’s claims that the sky is falling or might be falling or is possibly going to fall or … ? This thread is way beyond sad. Why would people choose to “keep holy the Lord’s day” by such speculation?

You mean attempt to simulate ordaining a female, since it’s not possible to actually do so.

Um, what about our obligation to support the Church? We aren’t given the option to support, or not support, our Church based on whether or not we like the priest…a “slippery slope” as our political friends would say…

Our obligation to support the Church can be fulfilled by mailing money directly to the Vatican. Or to another diocese which is obedient to Rome. In fact if the parish is having female priests it is not even truly Catholic, so the obligation to support is is null and void.

Catharina:

The sky is falling all around us. One look at Canada makes that obvious. You are right, so far the U.S. has been extraordinarily blessed with religious freedom . . . but how long that may continue is open to question. Before too long the Church in this country may face persecutions if it refuse to buckle to the forces of Political Correctness. Speculation is just one way of preparing for that time.
