I was thinking today in light of another school shooting, do these ever happen in schools where the Bible is taught? Anyone know?
The answer is yes, they happen in schools where the Bible is taught. Just being taught about the Bible does not ensure that the individual taught FOLLOWS the Bible (I assume you’re operating on the idea that the Bible teaches that murder is a sin).I was thinking today in light of another school shooting, do these ever happen in schools where the Bible is taught? With all due respect who friggen cares if the students shot are Christians or not? Second amendment rights have to be understood within the full context of the American constitution…and the utter stupidity of the Republican gun lobby is only contributing to these shootings. Not that I disbelieve you, but does anyone have a source for mass shootings at religious schools?
I don’t think gun control would help too much. The places in the US with the most gun control have gone on to develop the most gun violence. I do agree that the deinstitutionalization of the mentaly ill is largely responsible, but another large portion of it does come from our societies abandonment of religion. There would not, for example, have been a columbine massacre if those children hadn’t had a large dose of atheistic nihilism. With all due respect who friggen cares if the students shot are Christians or not? Bring in gun control, that does not mean getting rid of guns, but privileges and rights require responsibiltiy. The role of mental health in many of the shootings is something that can and should be addressed, why not a comprehensive strategy of ensuring that those who buy and use guns are responsible gun owners…that is the question.
Obama said it today that the US by their dogmatic positions of uncompromise is not a reality in any other country. The more guns the more shootings…
Why would the original poster connect any of this with whether any shootings have happened in Christian schools?

This is all true. We live 65 miles west of Chicago, and we get all the people that the gangs send out of town to lay low for a while. This means that our shooting rate is quite high considering the size of our small city.Lot’s of calls this week for “tougher gun laws”.
We already know Chicago has among the most restrictive fire arm laws in the country.
Yet in Chicago . . . . NOT last YEAR, not last QUARTER, not last MONTH, not even last WEEK, but just last WEEKEND there were THIRTY SHOOTINGS and FOUR gun deaths in Chicago!
What new law cooked up in Chicago would the criminals have obeyed here?
If rules, laws, “gun-free zones”, registration, etc. would rid a city of gun violence, Chicago would be Mayberry RFD (the idyllic placid TV town on the old Andy Griffith show). Mexico (which also severely limits its citizens right to bear arms) might be even more tranquil.

- Chicago = Mayberry RFD? No!
Yet is that what we see in Chicago? No!
Many of the calls for new gun legislation ultimately effect the good law-abiding citizenry including those with formal weapons training (i.e. military veterans). This violates our own Constitution as the Supreme Court has been forced to invalidate some of this type of legislation.
The breakdown of the family in our country has had a devastating effect and will continue for the time being.
Stopping illicit gun violence starts by changing the hearts of people. The solution includes families with loving fathers and mothers who care about their own children . . . not encroaching on principles of our Founders and removing liberties from the law abiding citizenry.
God bless.

The weekend’s first fatal shooting took place around 1:45 p.m. Friday in the 1900 block of West Howard Street in the city’s Rogers Park neighborhood when an 18-year-old man was found with gunshot wounds to his torso and back, police said.
Police responded to the scene after receiving reports of shots fired in the area . . . .

Yes, I have heard that argument before, but it doesn’t stand up to the facts that most First World nations do not have the same degree of shooting. I live in Canada, and just look at our statistics, we had - until this right wing conservative government - gun registration (which was a good idea but a badly managed program). In either case we do not even approach the 73 or so school shootings in the same time period that these shootings happened in the US.I don’t think gun control would help too much. You’re wasting your time trying to tell people here in the US that more guns are not the solution…people in other countries have mental health problems also…many are even more secular than the US with far fewer attending church…kids play the same violent video games…they all also have far fewer gun related deaths than the US…and that is per head of population…why…because they have far stricter gun control laws then here in the US…but you’re still wasting your time …no matter how many children are slaughtered in school shooting…the 2nd amendment trumps everything.Yes, I have heard that argument before, but it doesn’t stand up to the facts that most First World nations do not have the same degree of shooting. I think it’s a fallacy of composition to assume that the reason other countries don’t have the same level of violence is somehow related to gun laws. The U.S. also has the largest prison population. Why do you think that is?Yes, I have heard that argument before, but it doesn’t stand up to the facts that most First World nations do not have the same degree of shooting. It is strange that these crazed murders always pick gun free zones. Hundreds of defenseless children, dozens of unarmed adults. Like shooting fish in a barrel. Again if you are really concerned about saving lives, as I am sure you are, you have to look at the results of policies and not just the intentions of those enacting them. You’re wasting your time trying to tell people here in the US that more guns are not the solution…people in other countries have mental health problems also…many are even more secular than the US with far fewer attending church…kids play the same violent video games…they all also have far fewer gun related deaths than the US…and that is per head of population…why…because they have far stricter gun control laws then here in the US…but you’re still wasting your time …no matter how many children are slaughtered in school shooting…the 2nd amendment trumps everything.
1991 TexasIt is strange that these crazed murders always pick gun free zones. Hundreds of defenseless children, dozens of unarmed adults. Like shooting fish in a barrel. Again if you are really concerned about saving lives, as I am sure you are, you have to look at the results of policies and not just the intentions of those enacting them.
Economist John Lott found:
“With just one single exception, the attack on congresswoman Gabrielle Giffords in Tucson in 2011, every public shooting since at least 1950 in the U.S. in which more than three people have been killed has taken place where citizens are not allowed to carry guns.”
The only public policy shown with any consistency to reduce the occurrence and severity of mass shootings is concealed carry laws. So if you really are concerned about results more people armed with concealed weapons is the answer. What could possibly be a bigger deterrent to someone wanting to kills lots of people than the fact that quite a large number of those people may be armed? It’s just basic common sense.
You gotta give more details than a year and state…1991 Texas
1966 Texas
1986 Georgia
2009 Alabama
2009 North Carolina
These are states with rather liberal gun laws. I guess you could say that since some of them happened in locations that don’t allow guns, such as the workplace, that proves your point. I suspect most employers still won’t let workers bring guns or other weapons into the workplace unless they are forced to by law. Which will probably violate some other right.1991 KileenTexas a man guns down 35 in a restaurant after using his truck to crash into the building
1966 University of Texas an ex Marine kills 16, wounds 30. He killed 2 earlier.
1986 Georgia Postal worker kills 14. I believe this is where the term ‘went postal’ came from
2009 Kinston Alabama Man kills 10
2009 Carthage North Carolina man kills 8 in a nursing home.
What right? It’s the employers property, they can ban guns if they want. Whether or not that is a good idea is another question entirely.Which will probably violate some other right.
